Baylor is currently sitting at #20 in the AP. The one loss on their record is to a very good Syracuse team in Maui.

UNC just lost to UAB and lost to the same Belmont team UK plays, but they also beat Louisville. It will be the first true road game for this team.

Belmont is 4th in the Collegeinsider's Mid-major poll.

Boise State is currently undefeated, but they haven't really played anyone yet. CBS had them projected to finish first in Mountain West.

quote:

Only two seasons removed from a 13-win campaign, Boise State has the pieces to compete for a conference championship in 2013-14. Head coach Leon Rice brings back all five starters from an NCAA tournament team, including all-conference guards Derrick Marks and Anthony Drmic. Both players are high-level scorers, and allow lights-out shooter Jeff Elorriaga to have wide-open shots from behind the arc. Rice has plenty of perimeter depth, but the key will be in the post. Last season, the Broncos struggled to defend inside the arc and were often shorthanded against bigger teams. Senior Ryan Watkins is a terrific offensive rebounder, and the incoming newcomers bring size. Winning on the road will be key, too – Boise went just 2-6 away from home in conference play.

We all know how huge the U of L game is. Huge rivalry game between the past 2 NCAA champs. Outside of Michigan State, Louisville is probably UK's toughest opponent this year.

No matter how the next 5 games play out this team will definitely be ready for SEC play. We will know a lot about this team after the next couple of weeks.

They are playing Boise State as a favor to the new Boise State AD who was the assistant AD at UK under Mitch just prior to taking the Boise State job.

I thought they finally looked like they were starting to gel in the Providence game. If they continue to play that way, the sky is the limit. The road game at Chapel Hill will be a great test of how they handle a hostile environment.

Yeah, me too. Every game you can see someone grow a little more. In the Providence game the greatest lesson was that they don't have to sit back and depend on JR30. I think they also saw the benefit of playing hard defense without Cal having to beat em with sticks like he needed to do against Clev State.

KSR did a better job of breaking this down than I ever could

4 of the next 5 are receiving AP votes

The arrows indicate if they are better or worse than Kentucky in a certain area

Not sure how many people stayed up to see the UK- Baylor game but I surely hope that Baylor plays with that intensity every game - not sure why they are only a "20" ranking. Their front line is very tough but their guards were not that great last night. These two teams basically fought to a draw but Baylor won on points. Game was back and forth all night and was one of the fiercest frontline battles I had seen in a while. The rebound game was played in the stratosphere...

I watched the game and saw a lot of things that made me nervous that this team will be more like last year than 2012.

They just had zero energy at times. The want and desire to win just seemed to missing.

They don't have a guy like MKG or Liggins who would make a 2 or 3 straight awesome hustle plays on defense that would bring life to whole team. There is no "glue" guy. I think Hawkins is someone who can fill that role eventually down the road, but lacks the overall talent and playmaking ability to do so right now.

Julius is their spark plug on offense and against these zones he is just getting overwhelmed with defenders every time he touches it. As soon as he touches it in the paint he needs to make one quick move and go. He seems to wait too often, which allows the defense to double and triple team him.

Free throw shooting is a major concern, as it always seems to be for Cal's teams. Not sure why, but better free throw shooting in the games they have lost and they would still be undefeated.

The big play that worries me is they still had a chance at the end when Baylor missed the front end of a one and one, but they let Baylor get the rebound. You just can't let that type of thing happen.
