I love the trash talk aspect of tRant. A LOT of people post here for personal entertainment because this is the most fun site to engage with fellow SEC fans from across the country. Constant serious discussion is boring. We can get serious discussion on ESPN, Foxsports, or a whole slew of other sites.
tRant is unique because it's a melting pot of thousands of fans expressing their PASSION for SEC sports without fear of banishment (within reason).
"Passion" and "serious discussion" aren't always the same thing. Many people consider "passion" to be troll-ish and scoff at it.
When did you all lose your sense of smack talk and fun? That's the heart of sports for the casual fan. That's what's missing on all the other websites - true PASSION.
For Christ's sake, you all sound like a bunch of neutered puppies. tRant is a wonderful place to entertain and to be entertained. The fact that you can't see how unique tRant is sad. The fact that you are unable to locate the serious discussion mixed in with the fun passion is sad.
This is a great website and I'm honored to post here.

I disagree with that. Everything is relative of course, nobody is saying that we all held hands and sang songs. But the OP is right...there was always really good football talk leading up to Saturdays with different teams chiming in on what to expect for their matchups. It's the reason so many people got on board to begin with..it was the best board in the internet to really talk SEC football with other SEC fans.
Compare that to now. You can't even state an opinion based on fact without 3 or 4 other fanbases thinking you're "trolling" (ie, saying something they personally disagree with), teenagers throwing around words they don't even understand like "lol melt!!!!!" or "y u butthurt?????" that don't make any sense in relation to the topic.
But really, there's nothing you can do about it. With the amount of ways that people can mask their IP, and with a free email address just a few clicks away, you'll never be able to really stop the true shitheads from continuing to frick things up for everyone else. I guess basically the board got too big for its britches.

It's not like fall of '10 with ATPB made things immediately fall off a cliff...btu that is what really got the word about to the nation about the site. And of course with an influx of new posters you'll have good and bad.
I know you may not think so because you dont' post on the SECR everyday like some of us, but the incessant, nonstop flaming and trolling has NOT always been the norm. I promise.

That's rose colored glasses Dubs. It wasn't always as bad, but it always has been this way. It's just more prevalent now that there is a much larger user count.

The first events of planned and widespread trolling that I remember were "the flagship" Arkansas posters. It was a group effort that was an attempt to mess with other fanbases. They were actually pretty witty and entertaining but it has then snowballed into everyone trying to troll each other and it just turned into a pile of crap. The discussion that made the board great and the reason many fans found and joined the rant is almost non existent anymore. And the threads that attempt to do this are overwhelmed by flame/troll threads that push it on the 2nd page in which it dies.
