When you're replying to a post, look to the right of the Message box, where it says "Emoticons." (If you're on mobile and can't see that, turn your phone sideways.)



Click on one of those, and it will be automatically inserted into the Message box where your cursor is currently located.

After you get familiar with the actual names for the ones you use the most, you can alternatively insert them via text by adding ":" on either side of the corresponding word.

For example, the top left emoticon is named "lol," so if you type ": lol :" without the spaces, it will insert that emoticon like this:

Type that a few times (or click on the picture of that emoticon) and then click on the "Preview" button to see what they look like before you submit your reply.
