Now for my chinstrap tirade:

As to chinstraps I believe 1. the chinstrap rule is stupid unless a player has it happen all game long and 2. the chinstrap rule can actually be detrimental to players health. Da'Rick Rogers catching a pass and get hit by two players on either side popped his helmet off. It was an amazing play because s second later he raised the ball in the air with a huge grin on his face. A TD catch that no one who saw that hit considered or imagined had happened.

Ironically, the two players that slammed into either side of him and popped his helmet off knocked themselves the hell out - BAD. The reason is simple physics - the energy of any hit has to go somewhere and when a helmet pops straight up the way it did on that play it goes that way. Otherwise all that energy gets absorbed in the head.

The NCAA reacted to dramatic hits without bothering to consult with those who could've told them better. But a dramatic looking hit isn't always the most dangerous - just what critics of CFB latch onto in order to criticize the sport.

3. Gurley proved badasses don't need chinstraps to make sure their helmets stay in place or even helmets. Helmet-less Gurley shredding SC was one of the sweetest plays ever and the refs shouldn't have stopped him - he was gone by the time they did with no one around to hit him.

Of course, we need to prevent skull cracking which happens when helmets come off or aren't worn but the rule is blind and stupid. It's not to much to ask, imo, for a governing body associated with institutions of higher learning to use some of that learning before they make rule.

That will help tons. We need to reach a critical mass of posters before the board can get rolling. Right now, we're just too few to get much sustained convo.

Hope you're right about that. We really do need to hit the magic number of posters. At the moment, it's like a ghost town in most threads despite a lot of hard work by a few posters.

Would be appreciated. Just let them know we need them on the Tennessee board.
