Don't even let them be for invited guests. There is absolutely nothing wrong with keeping the boards private for fans of the specific teams.

Nah open them up but moderate them more strictly. If LSU is playing A&M or something I would live to go to their board and talk about the game in a non homerish way like you'd see on the SECr with the flaming and such

Why can't you do that on the SEC Rant? If you don't want to deal with flames, then start a serious topic or don't respond to the flames that do come your way. What's great about the SEC Rant is that there is a good mixture of serious discussion and flaming/banter/goofing off. I don't want to have to visit every team board to see the "serious" topics and then the SEC Rant gets all the leftover bullshite threads.

I think the current setup is almost perfect with team boards being restricted to fans and invited guests. However, becoming an invited guest should be a little easier, like each board should have a sticky with the names of admins and their email so they can be contacted directly to request access instead of having to search for who decides who gets access and starting threads about it on the Rant or help board.

The other thing I believe leaving the boards private will accomplish is that it will cause the SECr to continue to be the melting pot of all fans. Whereas if the team boards were made open to all fans, questions and discussion between SEC fans would happen on team boards, not the SECr. So for the well being of the SECr, leave the team boards private

I could be totally wrong on this, but isn't part of the reason tigerdroppings and Tiger Rant have grown so popular as to be able to include separate boards for all SEC schools is the fact that they always allowed other fans to post on the LSU boards and only loosely moderate them? Tiger Rant has always had a good mix of opposing fan dissent and trolls etc.,that kept it interesting unlike lame Bama fan boards that ban opposing fan comments.

I agree. Keep it the way it is. Keep UT's board completely private.

well then there's that. Homers just want their own little private board that their sensitive eyes can run away from anything that might disturb the groupthink.

To allow the boards time to grow and grab new members. And be a sanctuary from the trolling of the Rants. The Rant is large enough that it could counter any trolls, but say what if the Rant or the OT decided to invade the Vanderbilt board one day

this was posted by napoleon on the TD help board not long ago. to which chicken posted it was "well said". could give some insight as to why the head fowl is leaving the team boards private for the time being. let them grow in numbers then open them to the public, which i think will work if done properly.

tried to find where napoleon posted it or where hugo reposted it for someone else in a different thread, but those threads appear to have been whacked. was able to google search and the quote above was still searchable, which is how i copied and pasted it here. was thinking there was more to it but this may be it.

i don't have a problem with the team boards being private while they grow. but i don't think they should be left private forever either.

I disagree completely. I think they should be open to all.

please let the current team boards remain private to only fans of that school and invited guests. if it means making the tiger rant private to make lsu whiners go away so be it. but having the team boards private as they are now is a nice respite from the flaming/trolling in the SECr. it is nice to have a place on this site where you can communicate among fans of your school without input/flames/trolling of other fans.

Support.

Feel differently on this point. Think that is what the SECr is for
