I've only read up on him briefly but it looks like a good hire. He did a lot of good things at Cornell and seems pretty down to earth as well.

The story linked talked about how comfortable and endearing he was in the interview and how successful he was with fundraising. I'm sure it's harder to raise funds at Cornell than UF.

I don't know. Cornell is an Ivy with a lot of ties in the northeast. At almost $6 billion in endowment last year, they have more money than we do by a good shot.

This whole thing was weird. I participated in the presidential search last year, answering questions they sent over about what I thought was important and so on. Not that I am anybody who's opinion matters to anyone, but they did do a lot of work to ultimately do nothing last fall. Then this time around, it seems they took very little input until they had three candidates (the third of which didn't seem to really be under serious consideration), and it seemed Fuchs was far and away the frontrunner from the moment they publicly announced it.

Fuchs sounds like a good pick. Higher education is in such a transitional period right now that I would almost rather be Will Muschamp dealing with fans that a university president trying to figure out where to steer the ship.

Was Fuchs born in the South? If not, we just keep perpetuating the notion that we are covered up with Yankees.

From what I read, he has a background in engineering and cares about athletics. So to me, so far so good.

I just found out that my aunt used to work for him at Cornell. First thing she mentioned was, "he always lamented the lack of interest in football."
