Well that KY game was a big wakeup call after the big Utah win.

Positives: The defense played pretty damn good I would say. Its a team game but the Gators probably win most of the time the defense plays to that level. A few little breakdowns here and there but a good overall performance. Another real big positive that is carrying over from the Utah game is the depth is really being developed at most positions. The backups played a bunch of downs in that KY game and it wasn't just the D linemen backups getting time in there. I guess another positive is a future team on our schedule looks to be having some major issues themselves.

Outlook for the rest of 2022: This is a hard one to peg. On one hand KY did put a blueprint out there for other defenses to try and copy to see if it will work against Richardson but the good thing was it happened early in the season so if AR is able to pick his game up there wont be some big surprise on how we might be defended down the road. The only 3 teams I think at this point that have the defensive players to truly implement KY's defensive game plan at that level against us are GA, A&M and probably LSU if they aren't in disarray at that point of the season. FSU has the D linemen but not good enough LBs to pull what KY did effectively I think.

AR has to grow and be up to the task or this team will fade starting with the @ Tennessee game I think. Tennessee isn't a real good team on defense and probably can't do what KY did there but if they are scoring some with that hurry up offense things will get interesting. In some ways looking forward I think the better outcome for the 2023 season might be if Richardson played pretty well under pressure hitting some nice passes even if we were to lose at the end. A win where our defense creates enough problems for Tennessee but Richardson is struggling again passing when under pressure (against an average Tennessee SEC defense) will not be a good sign moving forward imo at least as far as the rest of 2022 and 2023 goes.

Wow, what a difference a week makes. kentucky exposed our
underbelly. To have a successful season some things have to change, no big surprises here, most we knew going in but Kentucky really brought them to light.

Linebackers must cover better. For 2 games now, TEs have run open all over the field.
DBs have to tackle and cover better. Showing improvement but not good enough for SEC play.
Dline needs to develop some depth. They play hard but appear to wear out in the second half.
Richardson must be more consistent. Just make the easy throws and don't throw it to the other team. Not sure what is going on with the QB reads but it looks like he needs to keep the ball more.
Receivers have to get open. I don't know if this is a play calling issue or what but it ain't happening.
We need to get the tight ends more involved in the passing game. As our opponents have show us in the first 2 games, TEs can be a big weapon.
RBs,I believe that there is enough film after 2 games to reduce the carries to just 2 RBs.
Oline is improved. Playing hard, like the D line needs to develop depth.
Special teams are not bad, punter and kicker are great so far, but we need to fair catch kickoffs. This continues to put us in poor field condition every kickoff that we run out.
Play calling needs to improve. example running the ball up the middle on 3rd and 7 or throwing a 2 yard out on 3rd and 10.
I have confidence in our coaches and players that adjustments will be made. Go Gators.
11-1 is still a great year!

As far as LBs they aren't great cover guys that is for sure. Utah had a WR basically playing TE so getting burned by him some was to be expected but KY's were traditional TEs. Even Miller as good as he is against the run isn't one of the better LBs when it comes to covering TEs.

I thought the DBs held up pretty well except for a couple of plays with KY having those speedsters in at WR.

As far as our WRs they are who they are and Pearsall is probably the only one that can be considered good as far as the SEC goes. With our TEs evidently not being good targets so far its hard to see us even having a just below average type of passing game unless Richardson is able to improve with that part of his game.

Looking at some of those grading service reports through 2 weeks they say our screen pass game is straight garbage.

Etienne and Johnson have ran much better than Wright but have had those fumbles. Both Johnson and Etienne score much higher in pass blocking than Wright so far.

Our O linemen are mostly decent pass blockers but only Torrence is dominant in run blocking with White being decent also.

List your top 3 things to work on this week during our practice game against USF.

1) Passing game
2) Coverage, LBs and DBs
3) Building depth on both lines

That is a good list but I think what really needs to happen passing wise cant be worked on against a patsy too much. Being able to go to a second option when you don't have time to do your taxes back there. My guess is we run all over this team and burn them with 1st option throws since their defense looks so weak and we are coming off a loss. I would love it if USF surprised and we got some quality reps for our passing game though.

I’d like to get a lead n see what the other QBs can do

I’m not calling for AR to be benched, I’d just like to see if he won the job by being the best QB we have or did he get it by being the most athletic

I like AR a lot but think Miller could be good with some experience. He hasn't looked great in Spring games but has shown flashes. Many Ohio State fans were very very high on Miller.

Ohio state fans can be high on who ever they want.

If Miller would have been at 100% on Saturday he wasn't seeing the field. I do think it would have been more productive after our first series in the second half. If Napier would have put in Kitna for a series and let AR kind of see on the sideline what was going on out there because he sure was not seeing it on the field in play.

Plus the Roughing the passer call on Trey Dean is not what beat us but it sure gave Kentucky 7 points though.

Weston returning kickoffs is a disaster. He barely makes it out too the 20 fair catch and start at the 25.

We have no speed at the receiver position. So that means we have no deep threat which is one less thing other teams defenses do not have to worry about. As much I didn't like Copeland he did give us a deep threat that teams had to prepare for. This is probably the least amount of team speed that the gators have had in a long time. Where has Whittemore been I don't believe I've heard his name in either of the 2 games.

The Defense played more then well enough to win this game. They were not perfect but still played more then well enough to win. The offensive game plan was not good AR Should never throw more then 30 passes in any game ever.

There were no misdirection plays like there were in the Utah game no multiple shifts either. Kentucky put 8 in the box manned up and said if you can beat us throwing the ball more power to you and we could not.

AR needs to be a leader out there on the field and on the sideline. Instead of pouting on the bench and staying Quiet sitting by himself. He should have gotten his line and his receivers together on the sideline and talked zbout what was happening on the field and what he was seeing. I have no problem with Sale being our oline coach but co-offensive coordinator is a stretch for him. Calling 35 passes for AR SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN EVER!!!!!

Doesn't Burke have a little speed? I know he was in the doghouse for a while but I think he had a few nice catches against SC when he actually got to play a little.

Isn't Napier the game day playcaller?

Albino, you are right on with all your comments.

Even if someone is your unquestionable #1, if they are having a bad day you have to make a change, if only for a series or 2.

We never get a break from the Zebras. If there is a 50/50 call it will always go against us.

Defense is improving, pass coverage is still a weakness as well as depth on the Dline.

Play calling was suspect, no adjustments were made during the game, IMO.

We have seen the best and worse of this Gator team, I hope that Coach Napier keeps coaching them up and that we see more of the team that beat Utah than the team from Saturday night. Go Gators.

Comments like our QB shouldn’t have xyz passes a game tells me we don’t have a QB

Isnt that his job, to throw the fkn ball? Idc if the next guy is a statue in the picket, if he can make the routine throws he should be starting.
AR was horrendous. Go watch the first possession, WRs open who had to reach behind them to catch the ball, WRs who had to dive for balls when they were open for an in stride catch n run. The only good pass he had all night was the strike between coverage on the sidelines.
I like his ability, but as a passer, he’s the last ranked QB in the Conf. Something has to give, either improve or ride the pine
We’ll see Saturday

I have a feeling he will be dropping bombs also as I think USF may have one of the worst defenses in all of FBS after watching some of their BYU game. I actually wish they were a lot better to give AR some time improving on what he will have to do against defenses like GA and A&M have. If he never gets comfortable being able to go to a 2nd option when under pressure we could end up having another Emory Jones that is just a freak athlete. I like AR a lot but this mess really has me concerned after this happening so many times post Tebow. With Trask being the only exception that played for a while.

Can’t run into an 8 man front, which is the blueprint on how to beat us now if AR can’t force them to fear the pass

I agree with pretty much every thing you said in your post, but this right here is so spot on.

I can't believe how poorly Mullen recruited the WR position, and I also can't believe that he couldn't get a halfway decent pass catching TE after the season Pitts had in 2020.
