Is the 2017 offensive line the best Mac has had at Florida?

Seems it should be.

Yeah, but that isn't saying much, because the two lines he had in 2015 was literally one of the worst OL in school history, and while 2016 was better, it would be in the bottom quartile of UF OL's in the past 30 years.

Let's take a closer look at it so that I can avoid working while I'm at work:

RT: Jawaan Taylor. Sophomore. 6'5, 340 - Played in 13 games as a freshman and started 12. Freshman AA on ESPN and a few other services. A good player, was 3* out of high school. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

RG: Tyler Jordan. Junior. 6'4, 309 - Played in 25 games in his career with 10 starts. He has been decent at RG. Not great, but decent. Former 3* recruit.

C: TJ McCoy. RS-Sophomore. 6'1, 308. - Played in 7 games, with 4 starts. Had a decent end to the year. Not overpowering, but decent. Former 3* recruit.

LG: Fred Johnson. Junior. 6'6, 311 - Played in 20 games and started 10. Started at tackle but was too damn slow to be effective. Moved to guard where he has been OK, not great, not bad, just OK. Former 3* recruit.

LT: Martez Ivey. Junior. 6'5, 305 - Has played in 25 games. 20 starts at LG. Moving to what is considered his ideal position now at LT, but he hasn't played here much so we don't really know how good he will be. Has been a good guard, and really turned it on at the end of last year, earning OL of the week in the SEC twice, and ending the season 2nd team ALL SEC. Former 5* recruit.

The primary backups?

Who knows really. Brett Heggie, a RS freshman, has been having a good spring and at 6'3, 317 has been pushing the guys in front of him at guard and center. He has no game experience.

Kavaris Harkless is one of your primary backups at tackle, unless he is unseated by a freshman or RS freshman in fall camp. He is a RS-Junior now, but only has played in 8 games with 1 start, although he played pretty well in that start against Alabama in the SECCG.

There is a whole army of ham'n'eggers who could come in as backups at the guard positions. Antonio Riles, Andrew Mike, and Nick Buchanan, but none of these guys are starter quality unless they make a big leap in their ability during the off season. The three combined have 4 starts (all with Riles), and have played in about 25 games.

---

So in summary, this is by far his best OL, yes, but that isn't saying much. If any of the starting tackles gets hurt, things will fall apart pretty quickly unless one of the FR or RS fr I didn't mention here steps up big time.

It should be better than his previous O-lines but nowhere near a great line compared to historic UF o-lines. I'd just like to see them open a hole for a running back every now and then and pick up a blitz once in a while.

The gators have averaged less than 130 yards per game rushing the past two season and below 3.7 YPC. They have to get that up above 4.5 YPC to have any chance at a special season.

With the experience at RB, and what is returning on the OL, they should be able to get there if the coaches do in fact know what they are doing.
