That's an interesting clause. Usually, it goes down every year. It was mentioned in this video. It's also mentioned that Norvell in out recruiting Mullen.

Yeah so... everyone okay with a dumpster fire FSU team outrecruiting UF right now?

Not only is Mullen getting killed by Smart with the 5 stars but he is getting killed with the higher 4 stars also.
Smart gas gotten 50 top 150 recruits the past 4 years while Mullen has gotten 19.
Its funny how they always gives these coaches more in these extensions claiming the recruiting will take a hit if they don't but all they have to do is extend the contract with no guarantees and the exit payout going lower so the coach can say he is signed for the recruits.

It’s a bit of a disaster right now. The only reason he survives the year given all the bad press he is pulling down on himself is because of the buyout.

it'll be $12 million next year, too. so that shouldn't matter.

I think one year after the raise will be more palatable.

If he is fired without cause he is owed $12 million, but it's not annually.

The buyout always has a clause that future earnings will deduct whatever buyout costs are.
I think people are suffering from premature cooachitis.
What I expect is wholesale staff changes for Mullen to remain the HC, Mullen will be given the order to hire asst coaches who can really recruit. Smart and Saban dont go knocking on doors...they just have top notch ataff do the ground work for them. UF has to open up the purse strings to let Mullen delegate the staff. They went cheap to hire the QB coach for prime example.

No top in demand assistants are going to want to come here knowing how hot Mullen's seat is going into 2022. Doubt even giving them a 2 year pay guarantee would make a difference.
Mullen really screwed the pooch not firing Grantham after 2020.

Sadly this is why we may not see any change during the season. Then a total dump when the final clock strikes zero.

Well if they think it needs to be done they should do it soon or they will be stuck with the assistant buyouts also if they wait until 2022 to do it. I think most of the assistants contracts only run until the end of this season.

Hopefully things are in motion and calls are being made. Its time to put up or shut up

SDS spoke with multiple high-level Florida boosters Saturday night, both during and after the South Carolina debacle. One such booster, who has been instrumental in helping Florida upgrade athletic facilities for football and other sports, delivered a simple message: “This has to change, and it should start to change Monday with multiple staff dismissals. If it doesn’t, we are just waiting for the guillotine to drop.”
The guillotine might drop on Stricklin himself if he doesn’t move quickly and decisively.

It's the lower of $12 million or the remaining value. Half gets paid within the first 60 days, the remaining gets paid out in annual installment over 6 years. As far as buyouts go for college coaches go today, its actually fairly reasonable.

Mullen will be HC next year, but he must hire top notch asst coaches that will recruit top ten talent. Thats been a thorn in the side of Gator fans.
