Urban Meyer arrived in 2005, what do you think his record would have been if Chris Leak was suspended indefinitely from the team after his 6th game?

After 6 games in 2005, they were 5-1, they lost a close one to LSU the next week, so you have to figure without Leak - the starter would have been Josh Portis - does anyone even remember him? Lol.

So at 5-2, UF gets a bye before they play UGA - does UF win that game without Leak? I don't know. The next week they get Vanderbilt, who they had to beat in Double OT - I say this lose this game without Leak, who had 5 TDs that day.

They lose to South Carolina even with leak - so they lose that game too, and they crushed FSU - so we'll say they win that win regardless. They barely beat Iowa even with Leak having a good game in the bowl.

So in 2005, if UF lost Leak after game 6 forever, they are 8-4 at best, maybe even 7-5 or 6-6 because josh portis was not a good back up QB.

The next season, assuming you are able to still recruit Tebow with that bad of a season, he is your starter from Day 1. Now let's imagine, Portis transfers (just like Treon, and also because it happened in real life) Tebow is now your only scholarship QB, and you have 3 walk ons backing him up.

No let's imagine Tebow is hurt during game 3 against Tennessee. Florida loses that game, probably even with Tebow starting, and is 2-1 to start the year. Tebow is out for 3-4 weeks with injury. So UF slips past Kentucky the next week, and hell, I'll even give them Alabama because that wasn't a good team, but probably gets killed by LSU, before Tebow returns from Injury for the Auburn game. UF loses that game, and is now 4-3 on the season, and out of contention for the SEC by week 8.

That imaginary story is basically what happened to coach Mac in his first two years here so far. Even with the immense talent on those 2005 and 2006 teams, through the same number of games Urban Meyer probably would have been, at best, 13-6 or 12-7 with similar QB luck. Meanwhile, given that shitty hand, Mac has completely overhauled the QB position during his first two years, we have a ton of depth going forward, and he handled that situation going 15-5 in that same time frame.

Just some food for thought during the off week.

Florida's recent bad luck with QB just can't be overstated. If UF had Grier for both seasons, just like Meyer had Leak, UF would probably have been 11-3 or 12-2 last year, at worst, and would be 6-0 right now.

TLDR - I'm bored OK!!!!!

I'm taking the most important part: I don't think it'd be possible to beat us if we had a baller Quarterback. Outside of Alabama and Ohio State, that is.

With the defense being as fast, strong and well-coached as it is. All we need to do is score a couple of times and keep making first downs (this is the big one).

Grier just made clutch plays, and he made it look easy.

Miss the dude.

I still think Portis would of wrecked shite in that type of offense.

I don't know.... Meyer would barely let him on the field. If anyone is a good judge of spread option QB's I would assume it is Meyer.

He had 29 rushes for 163 yards and 0 TDs.

He was 6-11 passing, for 81 yards, and 1 INT. 0 TDs.

Meyer barely ever took Leak off of the field.

Thank God this didn't happen.

If we had landed Tebow we probably wouldn't have Saban now.

Mike Shula would have been given at least another year and the Saban window would have been closed.

Cam Newton arrived at UF with John Brantley in 2007.

UF had nothing behind Leak in 2005, and in 2006, if Leak was gone, it would have been Tim Tebow, and.... Gavin Dickey? Maybe? I'm not even sure because Portis transferred after 2005.

College football season ends too soon. I will add that Meyer tried to make Leak an option QB in 2005 and that didnt turn out well. Leak did not like contact much.

If folks remember, UF had their doors blown off by Bama in 2005. Fans were restless after that first Meyer season. In 2006 with a senior/junior laden team recruited by Zook, we won the BCS title.

Im ready for next week and getting rested team back in the groove.

Imagine if Eason chose UF instead of UGA

Imagine if the defense and staff didn't mail it in against UT

Imagine what the DL would look like if Mac would've signed any DTs the last class.

Imagine if we don't get the PI against FAU

Imagine if we don't have a >40% FG kicker beat Vandy

Imagine if Meyer/SOS had stayed

Imagine if Jordan Reed hadn't fumbled against UGA

Imagine if Dalvin Cook stayed committed

Imagine if WM didn't meddle with the offense

Imagine what UF looks like if Cam doesn't steal a laptop.

If if if

You are so down on this staff you can't give them credit for anything. Lol.

You know what, to be fair, I got there right away against zook after the 2003 Miami debacle.

So given that, please continue your melt. Preach brother.

Zook is a better coach and recruiter than Mac right now. Fact.

I liked Zook a lot....people dont understand the history and the real coaching restraints that Zook had. First, he inherited a team in 2003 that had a very young inexperienced OL, he also had a true frosh QB played play most of the game against the Univ of New Jawsey @ Coral Gables. Remember that Leak was the Eason of 2003 recruiting class. Zook had jr Rex Grossman who was headstrong and a gunslinger who didnt fit Zooks offense. Zook was fired in 2004 when Leak was a true soph and still learning.

If you recall Zooks introduction at the presser when hired...he stated that all he needed was a cellphone and he used when showering before the presser to call recruits. He was a recruiting machine. He recruited a ton of talent as Spurriers asst. while Steve played golf. Thats a fact jack. He was a ball of energy as a special teams coach and left the Saints as their DC to coach UF.
Nobody could out recruit Zook back then imo. He was a little too emotional for his own good and the new President at UF wanted Meyer even before arriving. Zook was out.

Meyer won that 2006 BCS title with Zooks players.

Anyway...thats history and the present and the future is what really matters. TJ is definitely not hiding his feelings about the current staff and I disagree. We will know all we need to know by the end of 2017 as to the HC and staff's abilities. TJ wants to throw negatives out and I could just as easily throw positives at him..but why do that? He is dead set in his opinion or agenda. He isnt changing anyone's minds.

Plenty of football left and I would rather think positive and we will see what we see by end of 2017.

Oh I agree. It's sad to watch the likes of Tennessee St and MTSU drop points and yards all over Vandy and Missouri with ease.

Does it also make you sad when we beat Kentucky like a drum and they end up beating Miss St.?

We beat Vandy on the road with our second string quarterback: WE SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE.

Vanderbilt beats Georgia on the road: Crickets.
