Seems not.

I'm sure many will rejoice at the perceived trolling of the libs.

The president's job is mainly fundraising, honestly, and given were the $$$ comes from these days at flagships, it may not prove disastrous. It honestly doesn't matter if you're Che Guevara or Milton Friedman in your personal politics, as long as you understand your job is mainly landing dollars.

The state of Florida allocated $2.7 billion total to all state universities, of which I think UF got something like $470 million or something, basically the lion's share. But the operating budget is $3.4 billion, which means any UF president has a lot of money to turn up.

Obviously, that isn't all done directly by that position, but even the indirect stuff - grants, licenses from new tech, partnerships, etc. - are largely set up by the actions of who runs the show. The office of the provost is who the colleges mainly go to about day to day ops, but the provost reports directly to the head honcho.

If Sasse can bring in the bucks like Fuchs did, it will all likely smooth itself out largely. If he can't, this will get nasty quick.

Nothing can be more shady that the chancellor search that went down where I am few years ago, but it largely seems to have calmed down because, regardless of how he ended up with the job and where he came from, money is coming in and the talent in some key positions is much better. Everybody calms down with the politics when the day-to-day is going well, despite how it looks on Twitter sometimes.

Still, very odd choice.

I'm not familiar with Sasse at all, much less about his political leanings, so I can't speak on him a whole lot.

I did notice that he's a pretty big football fan:
@BenSasse Twitter

Whatever political differences I may have with him aside, I do like that he's a big football fan, and will be fine with it if he stays in his lane, raises money, and supports the football program with what it needs to stay at the forefront.

Unfortunately not a joke, he will just add to the woke culture at UF. He has proven to be physically conservative but socially liberal. Look in dictionary under RINO to find his picture.

He’s been schooled at Harvard and Yale, so that makes him a perfect fit for UF and the Florida culture.

Well, if any two schools know how to get bucks through the door, it would be those two.

Dude's been hired now. Might as well hope for the best. The day to day stuff is largely run by the provost's office anyway. I almost never have to deal with the chancellor, and I'm in admin.

To quote one of my favorite movies, "No bucks, no Buck Rogers."

You have academic units like departments, schools, and/or colleges at a university.

So the hierarchy is University -> College/School -> Department.

Every now and then, there is a school within a college.

Chairs are over departments.

Deans are over Schools/Colleges

Presidents/Chancellors are over the whole thing.

However, in reality, Presidents and Chancellors are largely trying to establish partnerships, secure donations, and basically make connections that bring in money and growth. They also can establish missions for universities to pursue, and a lot of top end hires, like general counsel and so on, run through that office.

The real COOs on campuses are provosts and associate deans. Provosts are who handle day to day ops, approve new faculty and staff lines, and so on. Likewise, within a school or college, the associate dean is who is really running thing so the dean can concentrate on fundraising, partnerships, and so on.

Obviously, presidents and deans can step in wherever, but if a university and/or college is running correctly, they shouldn't really be handling faculty disputes, grade appeals, and so on. If that kind of stuff makes it up to them and isn't a seriously big deal, somebody in between in going to get a talking to.

He's a DeSantis plant. He's all politics. Not saying Presidents aren't, but they don't make it obvious.

People are actively afraid he will change free speech on campus, take resources away that don't agree with his viewpoints, and do everything DeSantis asks.

It's scary. Our rankings could go off a cliff when we lose a lot of our prized professors and our endowment suffers.

After seeing the outrage from the woke student body and administration at UF over Sasse, I now fully support him as the next President of the University of Florida!!!
