The freshman grew up a South Carolina fan and strongly considered the Gamecocks before committing to Clemson last April. The move was a difficult one for Thomas, who had a strong relationship with USC head coach Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Lance Thompson, but was one Thomas felt like he had to make.

quote:

Choosing to play for the rival of the school you grew up rooting for may sound strange to some, but Thomas said it was clear to him after a while where he belonged.

“It was pretty tough. I always grew up wanting to play at USC, but I just had to look at the bigger things and having them have my major and having bigger things for me here, I just had to look at the bigger picture,” Thomas said. “After taking multiple visits to both schools, it was hard at first, but I would say it wasn’t that hard after that.”

What's his major? If we don't offer it there's really nothing we could do - and kudos on the kid for actually caring about his schooling.

Sucks, but what are we gonna do?

Yep. If you are going to miss out on a kid that's a reason I think we can all live with.

I don't know what his major is, but there were some other things going on with his recruitment. We got beat out, plain and simple, and part of the reason is because we didn't try hard enough. Not the coaches/staff, but as fans and boosters if you get my drift.

Something we've failed to do for our entire history for some reason.

Hell, even the more 'sanctioned' ways to improve the program met fierce resistance. Remember the push back Hyman got for the programs he and Spurrier pushed that has since led to all these amazing facility upgrades? I'm sure rooster could speak more to it, but if I recall there were a lot of unhappy ole boosters that didn't want to dole out the cash.

Still paying off the credit cards from Clowney's recruitment?

Muschamp knows we have to play a little dirty to hang with the UGA's and Clemson's of the world. There are boosters within our program who want to do it, folks with a lot of money. There are also some who are so anti-cheating, that I think they would even tell on their own. We have to walk that gray area and get a little dirty if we are truly going to win.

I read this article the other night. Tell me that first paragraph doesn't sound like Dabo/Daquan Bowers.

He also played for UGA, coached at Auburn, etc. He is infiltrated with what it takes to win in the SEC. Recruiting is the lifeblood of the program, and he gets it more than most. We have a few other staff members who also get it. Its just a matter of getting those with big wallets fully on board.

Yeah, a REAL hard decision to make.

As soon as I heard he was transferring to IGM, I know he was bought and paid for....

Once upon a time, just for giggles and grins, I pulled the financials for the family car was. That was entertaining...

I mean along with the "help"

realistically youre the best DLineman croot in the nation.

You see Clemson's D Line as of recent and ours, who do you choose?
Especailly when looking to go to the NFL.

Lets be real here, X doesn't give a shite about winning national titles or the rivalry.
He wants to make his mark in the game and be a first round draft pick.

Although at the same time, Muschamp is good at sending those on the defensive side of the ball. (well at Florida he was)

He will be here as well, but it still takes talent to get to the NFL. The draft eligible players (previous 4-5 year recruits) we've had since Muschamp has been here, have just have not been NFL talent. That'll change as he's identifying his players. The next few years will start showing that he can put you there from USC as well.

I dunno. I personally think he would have been a 3 year starter here. There he's behind their very deep D-line.

Clemson is going to have a big fall off next year with regards to it's d-line. They have some talent, but it's in experienced.

I think experience isn't what it used to be.

Kids are coming in so talented that they make major impacts as true freshmen.

Especially kids that are highly recruited.

You most likely won't see that from a 2 or 3 star kid (say Melvin Ingram)

But for the highly touted guys (Clowney, Gilmore, Lattimore) those guys made impact game 1.

Ingram was a 4* kid

you're right.
But he wasn't as Highly touted as the other 3, and didn't he play RB or something until his senior year of HS?

I know he was a LB coming in/recruiting but he clearly wasn't the player he left USC.

He was just a physical freak who hadn't found his spot yet. Junior year they finally put him on the line on pass rush situations, and he took off.

Exactly.

But what I’m trying to say is now days “experience” is overrated especially if you wanna be an elite team.

Elite teams have freshman that are better than mediocre teams 4th year seniors.

Last years national title game had two true freshman QBs.
Alabama was actually one of the younger teams in the country. Georgia probably is this year

The game is changing, these kids (the really good ones) can ball at 18-19 years old
