With so many questions surrounding our offense this fall I'm sure most people are over looking this position. Having a guy like Jerell Adams as your starter is a huge relief after losing Anderson to graduation last year but the truth is we've always had another guy ready to step up at that position until this year. Other than Stadnik (moved to TE from the OL) we have 5 freshmen and redshirt freshmen that are behind Adams on the depth chart right now. Markway and Redmond (back injury) are looking like they will be redshirted this year. I'm sure most people feel that it's either going to be Crosby or August at the back up position but my money's on Hayden Hurst ( Bio). This guy has the size and athleticism to become next year's starter at tight end. He had a couple of catches for 53 yards during yesterday's scrimmage ( Stats) which I'm sure turned some heads on the coaching staff. So who do you think will become Carolina's number 2 man at tight end throughout this season?

Hurst would be my 1st pick - he seems to have burst onto the scene lately IMO much more than the typical walk-on addition to the team. He certainly has the size for it. Probably Crosby would be my next choice...

Crosby.

I think Stadnick has only moved to TE to replace Cody Gibson as an extra offensive lineman in some formations

I thought they moved Stadnik to TE because he couldn't get his weight up. Regardless I hope they use Mason Zandi like they did with Cody Gibson last year if he isn't going to be a contributor on the O-line. I believe the HBC even had a play for Zandi where he was going to look like a lineman but actually be a TE which was called off because of a penalty. I'd look for that play at some point this year when we need a big play.

Yep, Clayton had his tonsils removed after the Miami bowl game at end of last season, and fell to 230-240 lbs. Both Stadnik brothers have had issues keeping their weight up to Div I OL levels - Brock was the highest-regarded of the two out of high school, but he was never able to develop physically enough to truly challenge for a starting spot on the OL. He came into USC in 2012 listed at 285 and apparently never gained more than 1-2 lbs his entire time in the program. He was probably closer to 270 his whole time than 290. He's out for this season with a shoulder injury and most likely his playing career at USC is over....

Clayton didn't want to stop playing OL, but losing all the weight made that no longer an option. They are trying him as a TE/HB option because that's where his weight best fits him, and he ain't a RB or WR.....

Zandi should be the starting RT this year.

I know in 2013 they used him in that tackle eligible play at UT but they called timeout right before we snapped the ball and saved a TD.

IMO, Crosby. He already has the team record for the power clean. He's fast, has good hands, great work ethic...I think we are going to run some dual TE sets this year and run some people over. Also, Crosby has been here a couple years now and nows the system. Hurst is new. August has been here 1 year. I like Hurst and August as walk-ons, we'll see if hey do anything to earn a scholarship for the years to come.

I'm pretty sure Brandon Shell and Mike Matulis are going to be the starting tackles this year. If this is going to be the case I'd like to see Zandi as an extra lineman, potentially catching a pass when the time is right.

Crosby would be an excellent option during passing situations, maybe even going in motion and lining up as a receiver to throw off the defense.

Hurst played baseball for the Pirates farm system before coming to Carolina so a scholarship isn't as important to him financially even though I'm sure he would accept one if offered.

Right now Shell is starting at LT and Matulis is starting at LG Alan Knott at C Will Sport at RG ( ) and Zandi at RT.

They might have moved Stadnick to TE because he couldn't gain weight but I still expect him to play the role that Gibson did last year. Gibson got down to 250/260 to play TE

Thanks for clearing up the starting line for me, Matulis is still listed as a tackle and I haven't heard about his move to guard this fall. Of course he has played just as much at guard during his time at USC so it would make sense. I guess I thought the starting OL was going to be Shell and Matulis at tackle, Waldrop and Sport at guard, and Knott at center.

Yea they moved Shell to LT and Zandi to RT and both have made the transition well, at least from what I've heard.

I'd really like to see Waldrop beat out Sport at RG. I fricking hate watching Sport play and I'm pretty sure we have a losing record with him playing significant snaps.

If he is the best we've got at RG thats a big problem

How right you are, IDK how you did it but you nailed it. Play after play Sport somehow found a way to basically get blocked into the play. I know we have worse problems right now but seriously why is he still in there. Bring in D Stanley along with Camper to give us experience for the following years.
