He just was hired this morning by Oregon.

No word yet on which of his staff he's taking.

The spread was +11 for us before this announcement, you gotta wonder how this is going to impact the game and spread. (especially if he immediately takes some position coaches with him.) I don't think he will though, Oregon didn't make a bowl. So Oregon might just want him to come asap to start recruiting and staff building.

Yeah I imagine they will want to get up to Eugene sooner than later. Can you imagine that career path ha? USF to Oregon! What an upgrade in recruiting weapons.

Wow ... just wow.

Didn't see that coming.

The guy appears to be a good coach though - we interviewed him last year.

So an interim coach will be coaching against us in the bowl and it'll basically be an interview, resume builder, for him ... his job may be on the line. So don't expect this to be an advantage for us really. Look at it kinda like when Elliott took over last year - the kids tried to rally behind him because they felt betrayed and abandoned to some degree ... so that's kinda how this will go down on the 29th.

Taggart definitely has to hit the ground recruiting. And Oregon probably hired him to go after the Florida and Southeastern US talent where they have always wanted to get-into and with Nike they've got the brand draw to maybe pull some kids up to Oregon.

Sure would have never guessed they would hire Taggart. Almost seems like a desperation move of sorts.

He'll be gone in 2 years after San Fran fires Chip.

I would also imagine the USF AD isn't thrilled he's spent the past 2 seasons watching Taggart interview elsewhere and would be fine parting ways immediately.

Phil Knight probably has the final say, altogether

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- South Florida co-offensive coordinator T.J. Weist will lead the 25th-ranked Bulls in the Birmingham Bowl following coach Willie Taggart's departure to Oregon. Weist, completing his first season at USF, shared offensive coordinator duties with Darren Hiller.

Weist will serve as interim coach the rest of the season, which concludes with a Dec. 29 matchup against South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl.

- was also an interim HC at Conn for final 8 games of 2013 season, 3-5 record.

Given the option of coaching a bowl game in Birmingham or quitting his job, uprooting his family and moving 3000 miles across the country it was an easy choice. Who could blame the man, even if it wasn't to take the Oregon job.
