No word yet on who the LB coach is gonna be?

It's gotta be connected to a team still playing, or not?

I think it might be Blackwell. If it's a team who is still playing, I have not idea. Would it be Lupoi? That would be a huge coupe. It couldn't be anybody from clemson, b/c Venables is their LB coach/DC and I doubt we drop a $1M to get him. He's looking for a HC job next, imo.

I dunno ... I expected him to have it done by now.

I went to a drop in last week to meet the new coaches. We all expected the new hire to be announced NLT Friday morning ... which had us all speculating something may have changed, but who knows.

I did like the ones I met though. Especially BMac, (I had already met TRob), and Pat Washington, who may end-up being the steal of the new staff hires.

ETA: Here's a video I've been looking for. Boom Friday morning ... he says he'll have the new guy hired next week.

It's ten minutes long followed by about 45 minutes of the other coaches being interviewed for those who have yet to see it. LINK It's worth watching.

Their season started tonight, Sunday night, working towards this coming season.

Wasn't he recently at Mizzou?

Yes he was. And before that he was at Tennessee for a number of years - he's coached a lot of great WRs and TEs all over the SEC.

Hey, while you're here ... what do you think about BMac. I like him a lot. Got to talk to him for awhile, he's very well-spoken, upbeat, seemed cautiously optimistic. Young and dynamic. I can see where he might be a great recruiter. I can imagine him sitting at dinner tables doing his thing with the Mommas.

Don't know a lot about BMac but looking through the recruits he was responsible for at Georgia I would agree that he has the ability to bring in great recruits for you. (Chubbs, Crowell, Michel, etc)

I agree that he has a big upside and he is only 32! A lot to like with that hire. Do you foresee a pro style offense with a focus on the run game from him?

From the pressers that I have seen, Kurt Roper is going to play an up tempo offense. Yes BMac has been able to recruit big time RBs that fit the offense UGA plays. I think he will continue to provide top level recruits that fit the new scheme. As far as recruiting specifically for the run game, he is our WR coach, but if there is a big time player out of an area that he specializes in i.e. ATL and West Fla I'm sure he will be the go to.

Some traction for the final coaching spot:

quote:

I am hearing that it very well could be Freddie Roach, who is on Alabama's staff coaching in the game tonight. He used to be at South Alabama, has good strong ties to junior colleges and played ball for the Crimson Tide...

https://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/02/freddie_roach_leaving_south_al.html

This could be a good move b/c of his connection to Alabama recruiting and to the JUCO schools.

He had average defenses the other 2 years at South Ala, but he won the 2011 JUCO Natty. He doesn't have a proven track record of committed prospects though, but his only D1 on the field coaching job was South Ala for 2 years.

Wouldn't mind it. If he's good enough to be on Saban's staff he's good enough for me.

You can take Corey Bell and David Blackwell off the list.

Freddie Roach or Rod Wilson could still be the guy.

Also hear Muschamp could circle back and hire a second DL coach.

I would just to take this time to say, IF Brad Lawing ever wanted to come back to coaching the DL at SC, I would welcome him back with a boisterous and profound elation. I have seen the vast wasteland after his departure and I don't like it. All past transgressions would be immediately forgiven, IMO. This move would also complete Muschamp's grande concatenation of filling out the Asst Coaching staff with the best of the best, which will bring Gamecock Nation to glory.

Erik Kimrey and/or Steve Taneyhill may get a shot at a QC position on our staff this year.

Taneyhill is of course and SC legend, but he also has years of coaching experience at the SC HS level. Could help to open even more doors for us. I think he seperated from Union though and is on the market.

The Fade has also been coaching at Hammond School, and I think he's still the HC there.

Possible Coach #9:

quote:

I heard tonight Florida State quality control coach Troy Douglas could be in the mix for the final open position on the South Carolina staff. He's a career secondary coach (and a very good one), so that would switch up the staff structure a bit. I know he is highly interested and would take the position if offered.

Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp is going to take his time and get the right fit. I don't know if at the end of the day it will be Douglas or not, but I was told tonight by two different sources to keep an eye on it.

Going as a Grad Assistant guys! Appreciate the love, I've heard about Gamecock Nation, excited to join you!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blake_Gideon

ETA: From 247 twitter link:

quote:

Gideon was a standout safety at Texas starting all 52 college games, which is the second-most in school history, during his time from 2008-2011. He had 276 tackles and 10 interceptions during his four-year career. He spent two seasons with the Denver Broncos on their practice squad before deciding to get into coaching.

Gideon, who played for Muschamp at Texas for three seasons, joined his staff at Florida in 2014 and then followed him to Auburn in 2015 to work with the secondary.
