IMHO, all the money being spent to upgrade stadium and surrounding ugly warehouse area is such a waste when you consider we lost a golden opportunity years ago to relocate it on campus like most SEC stadiums. It's too late now but boy what a shame, lol.

Yeah...this aint it. Id imagine only a small minority of fans would be happy seeing Williams Brice tore down....

plus that area looks much nicer now, and with this project will not only look much nicer but provide the athletic department with a steady revenue stream in the many millions with leases

As one of the posters in the thread on the main board said, we should spend the $1,000,000,000 on NIL...

Yea Columbia doesn’t need another underdeveloped bar and restaurant area. Bull Street and five points are enough

Columbia absolutely still needs a better restaurant scene.

plus that land is to be leased to developers, so its a constant cash cow that can then be used for NIL.

you can thank Dick Harpolian (not even worth me spelling his name right) for killing 5 points, and the restaurants/bars there. He is a cancer to this city

Columbia should focus on improving the areas that are already there instead of building new ones.

No one is gonna want to go down to the stadium just because there are new bars or restaurants there. Just look at the bull Street district.

Five points is a ghost town except for home team and the vista and Main Street are still not where they should be. Especially since all the college kids (and I mean literal 18 year olds) go out in the vista now.

A real shame. Thursdays-Saturdays were always a good crowd.

I thought it had more to do with an increase in crime?

5 points has less crime than the vista. When crime does happen college kids are blamed. 5 points was great 12 years ago, but it started to get shut down when the city made bars have more sales in food than alc.

as far as bull street, fireflies games are an absolute treat. that area is just fine. Yes we do need more nice areas to go. our scene is still far behind charleston and Greenville.

its weird to see fans not want to see USC lease unused land to developers and not only get a nice place to go eat/nice out ,but also know that it will generate millions for the university. Especially when the biggest knock around USC is that the area is nothing but warehouses.

People knocking our off campus stadium are missing the boat. There is huge atmosphere value with current location. There is probably not another stadium that 95% of the people can tailgate within a half a mile from stadium. Home and away fans. Go to Auburn or UGA and you will park more than a mile from stadium and tailgate in a small parking lot or yard with maybe 3 or 4 other groups. The hospitality at Carolina is way better because of density of tailgating.
Our Greek housing is 1.5 miles from stadium. That's not too much further than other schools.
Give it 10 more years and it will be basically on campus.

Now if we were like NC State, it would be a better argument.
