The Elite 11 Finals is going on in Oregon. They are warming up for The Opening in the next few days and the QB's are participating in drills and activities (like Legos, not kidding.)

They had some passing drills yesterday and the Elite 11 staff put out an initial Elite 11 list based on yesterday's results.

SC commit, McIlwain, made the list at #10.

In today's 7v7 drills they get 2 drives starting from the 25 yd line (redzone)., McIwain was perfect, going 6-6 and 2 TD's.

One reporter wrote:

McIlwain shows really good patience, lets his routes progress, finds a delayed slant route over the middle for a touchdown. 6 for 6.

Going back to Elite 11 Semifinals, McIlwain is 13 for 13 in his 7on7 Elite 11 passes
.

nice session for him.

247 Ranked the Top Performers from today's drills.

quote:

1. Shane Buechele (Texas commit)
Stats: 5 for 6, 3 TDs
Buechele earned the top spot in the Elite 11 rankings after Monday's workouts and he's got a strong chance of hanging onto that top spot after his Tuesday workout. The Texas commit connected on three deep ball touchdowns and was a split second away from connecting on a fourth.

2. Brandon McIlwain (South Carolina commit)
Stats: 6 for 6, 2 TDs
In the semifinals, McIlwain went 7 for 7 during a similar setting and he was once again perfect on Tuesday. Others look better at times when prospects are just throwing on air but when the competition heats up, McIlwain seems to rise to the challenge.

3. Brandon Peters (Michigan commit)
Stats: 6 for 6, 2 TDs
Quietly, Peters continues to be one of the most consistent performers in this Elite 11 group. There was never a doubt on any of his throws, he spun it well and put it on the money for every throw. Rarely do you see Peters throw a wobbler or skip a football.

This is what I like to see. This guy could be Shaw 2.0.

The best part is McIlwain's ceiling is much higher than Shaw's. Shaw became a decent passer in '13 and then in '14 (his Sr Year) he became even better and made smarter decisions (only 1 INT that year.)

McIlwain right now has the arm strength that Shaw did his Jr year in college. I think McIlwain may be the starting QB in '17, b/c hopefully Mitch puts together 2 great seasons and goes Pro after '16.

... and women only earn 77 cents on the dollar compared to men in the same jobs.

Which I am in favor of btw.

Brandon McIlwain at Elite 11: Gamecocks QB commit impresses during event https://trove.com/me/content/BaRU1?utm_campaign=hosted&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=sns&ts=1436456737 …

We reached out to ESPN's Tom Luginbill and SBNation's Bud Elliott for their thoughts. Here's what Luginbill had to say about what he saw in McIlwain:

McIlwain is a savvy, playmaking quarterback who can beat you with his arm, feet or decision-making. He is very similar to former Gamecock Connor Shaw. While McIlwain lacks ideal measurables (he is really on the short side), he is tough and highly competitive and gives Steve Spurrier that running threat he wants under center. Very active and snappy delivery with a live arm. Doesn't wow you with physical measurables of imposing passing prowess, but he is very heady and highly competitive. His game resembles Missouri's Maty Mauk and so does his stature.

Elliott also had some favorable things to say:

Brandon isn't the highest ceiling player at the Elite 11, but he had a strong showing on day two. He moved his feet well to keep himself in position to deliver an accurate ball. He held his own among some stiff competition.

Dat Pass, doe

McIwain just won MVP for their (Superbad) scrimmage today against Hypercool. He had the last 2 TD passes of the game. Bryan Edwards and Upshur are on his team.

#SuperBad gets the W in their first showing.

Player of the Game: Brandon McIlwain
3:34 PM - 9 Jul 2015

The Superbad QB's are McIlwain, Franks and Haskins. The Hypercool QB's are Pass, Costello and Starkel.

Franks, Haskins, Costello and Starkel were ranked higher in today's updated Elite 11 ranking, so I wonder if this MVP award is going to change that for tomorrow? McIlwain has been ranked at #10 for 3 consecutive days.

.... and remember how important 7s are in the bible.

quote:

Matthew 18:21-22

21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.”

I've looked ahead seven days on the ESPN sçhedule and I cannot find any of these games on any of their channels.

That's actually pretty awesome .... sort of like being named a Mickey D's All-American for HS QBs.

I hope we hold-on-to him. Mitch, Nunez and hopefully McIlwain ... that has potential for the next few years.
