If you can't beat them, join them. College football is supposed to be "non-profit." SC Athletics is getting truckloads of $$$ from the media deals, and we need to find new ways to spend those multi-million$. These satellite camps can help us do that. I don't think it's a matter of IF we'll do the satellite camps, but rather WHERE are we going to do them?

I think some no-brainer locations would be:
Metro DC area, (somewhere b/w DC/Baltimore/Philly)
South Florida/Miami/Dade/Broward area.
NJ

After that though, there is only so much time, and we'll have to pay for the coaches to do this, travel, equipment transportation, marketing, etc....

Where else are we going to go?
Is ATL or CLT or Raleigh too close by?
Do we go to TX/LA/MS/AL?
Do we try to go much further away; such as CA, WA, OH, or MI?
How many of these satallite camps could we realistically do in a summer?
What would be your Top5 Destinations for a SC Football satellite summer camp tour?

I would do camps in areas we already recruit and a few other areas nearby.

1. South Florida - Miami-Dade/Broward/Palm Beach County
2. North Florida - Jacksonville area (this would cover N. Florida and S. Georgia)
3. Atlanta - obviously our most important recruiting area.
4. Charlotte - we need a stronger presence in NC.
5. DC metro area
6. Eastern PA/New Jersey

I would make huge events out of the camps in Atlanta and Charlotte since they're so close. Essentially bringing campus/Gameday experience to the recruits.

Muschamp talked this evening about satellite camps. The coaches have some ideas about where they want to go, but will discuss more about tomorrow. JAX, ATL and CLT were all mentioned. NFL stadium towns. We will see what the plan looks like.

DC/Baltimore area yes. Philly area probably not.

Yeah, maybe. Maybe hold the camp around the West Palm Beach area, Sebring, Jupiter, somewhere in there. Although I believe we would do better concentrating on the Tampa-Bradenton-St. Pete area of Florida rather than South Florida.

Heck know, we should really focus on those three areas in a big way, even before doing so in the others already mentioned.

I wouldn't ... waste of money.

I wouldn't think so. Wouldn't make good business sense ... wouldn't be a good return on the investment dollar IMHO.

1 - As many as possible as long as it does not negatively affect your normal recruiting routine in any way/
2 - Those already mentioned above ... I would do Atlanta first and foremost and do it big, followed by the RTP, then Charlotte, Jacksonville and finally the greater Tampa-St Pete area.

If I could squeeze in a couple of smallish camps I think would focus on Augusta in certain years ... which, I would think timing would be key as well, choosing what years to host what camps and where.

For some reason I think these Satellite Camps are going to become more of actual recruiting camps for multiple schools instead of individual schools. Sure, each school would have individual camps (probably their bigger camps), but I could see them grouping up with multiple schools for smaller camps... kinda like how Georgia and Michigan are teaming up for a camp.

I could see SC teaming up with another school if we wanted to camp out of our normal recruiting area... Maybe A&M if we wanted to go to Texas.. and we would host them over here if they wanted to get into the deep southeastern states. I could see something like that happening. Or maybe SC getting together with Michigan State (Dantonio connection) in Georgia or Florida. That would be a big draw.

What is the incentive here though, inviting them in to take the best recruits? No way that works for me if I am the coach.

I think partnering with another school FROM the area you are recruiting is not a great move. I'm not too sure what uga and mich are thinking on this, maybe Kirby just wants to literally keep an eye on Harbrough.. I would better understand it if SC and FSU combined for a camp in TX, but I wouldn't want to invite a school to participate in a camp in my home state.

Yea that is a strange setup. Isn't the UGA/Michigan camp in Georgia? I would love to hear Smart's explanation for pursuing this. It does seem kind of weird to literally "invite" another powerhouse school into your backyard to recruit.

Yes, in ATL. I don't think it really behooves the home state school to invite out of state programs to partner with in camps. Unless they were going to do a home&home thing, but does UGA really want to recruit Detroit or Lansing?

I would better understand it if those two schools did a Co-Camp in TX or Metro-DC.

Michigan was slated to come to Cedar Grove (which is always loaded) before UGA joined them. We have two kids from there already committed and Kirby is playing defense to keep UM away. Plus, lots of those kids in that area don't have rides to Athens so we can reach them that way it's a bonus. We're also attending one at West Georgia that has 6 other schools hosting as well.
