Damn I'm getting old. I remember when it was a dairy queen. I also remember when the original Rush's, on broad river road, was also a dairy queen.

I'm trying to remember the Dairy Queen there. I remember when Dutch Square was a cow pasture. I remember when Service Merchandise was a thing. I remember when Kingswood was THE place. I remember when St Andrews Pool was there at the intersection of St Andrews and Broad River. I remember when Boozer Shopping Center was built. I remember when that War video came out "Why Can't We Be Friends" and that really dark brother kissed the snow white sista. I remember the big escape from John Jay Richards down by SLED and the massive boyhunt that ensued. I remember when the kid died on the bike taking St Michael's Hill at 60 mph and crashing into the back of that garbage truck. But, for the life of me, I don't remember that original Rush's being a Dairy Queen. I remember the first Lizard's Thicket being just down from there towards Kingswood. I'm rackin' my brain right now.

I grew up in Kingswood near the top of the hill of St. Michaels ( my street was named after Van Lingle Mungo, Michaels uncle).I was also a lifeguard and swim coach at the pool but not St. Andrews but the Pines Pool which was in the very back of Kingswood. I was young but the original Rush's was a Dairy queen. I clearly remember my older brother getting a beating for riding his bike up there. My good friend, Joe Nunamaker, grandparents owned the the pasture that became Dutch square and I grew up with the Dorn family that owned all of Harbison and Lost Creek. Broad river road used to be 2 lane with a 70mph speed limit. I also knew George Rush and family, my sister used to hang out with his daughter. Prisoners used to escape and run through our yards all the time. My older brother was friends with John Boozer who's family owned Boozer shopping center and I would love to go back to those times in life.
