I think everything at the top will be about right, except:
- Heard or Googer over Jeffery (I'll go ahead and say it, if Jeffery wasn't Alhon's brother, he would've been processed by now...this is his 5th year. We have some stud WR's coming in that need to be developed and get some PT. So Jeffery either needs to break out early in the season or hit the bench.
- Stanley starting at RG
-Sawyer over Dixon at DE. Wideman over Dixon as well.
-Charlton will be the starting Punter
-Jalen Christian will take somebody's place on the 2Deep at WR. probably Belton's and be behind Cooper. Dexter Neal may get a shot at the 2 Deep as well, but Christian just has that "Showtime" factor when he has the ball in his hands (like AJ Turner, but Turner won't see the field as a RB this year unless 2 people get hurt.)
- If Turner doesn't RS, I want to see him being the KR/PR instead of Carson or Cooper, those 2 guys are going to be critical in other positions this season, and Turner would be one of the best returners we've had since Culliver.

Part of me is nervous that our QB depth chart will be based on seniority (Orth/Mitch/Scarnecchia), similar to how the 2008 season started with Beecher/Smelley/Garcia...I still feel for Tommy Beecher sometimes

Do not feel bad for Beecher, he is an actuary now and making loads of money. I saw him just a couple weeks ago.

He had a good winter workout and spring, but we'll know more in fall camp when everyone is healthy. I wouldn't be surprised to see Stanley and Waldrop as the G's and Sport on the bench though. However, all the reports this spring were that Sport was doing well.

BAW 2nd string? You don’t really believe this, do you?

I’ll admit, I don’t know jack shite about Walton, but BAW is a special player.

In a 4-2-5 (nickel) he'd be behind Walton. Walton was the Def MVP of the bowl game and one of our better defenders overall last year. When we run the 4-3 (that will probably be our base next year) BAW will start at LB. The depth chart they had posted on the site I linked was the 4-2-5.

I think we'll use more nickel though against unc b/c they run the HUNH spread and we're going to want as much speed on the field as possible.

Why wouldn't Ward play BAW at Spur? I know size is an issue, but he plays great in space. I understand the base defense is interchangeable but putting the best 11 players on the filed is always the best scenario.

Frickin' this. I get a sick feeling every time I see his sorry arse on the field.

BAW isn't right for the Spur position, he's not fast enough and BAW wants to play LB. Also, Ward isn't in charge anymore, Hoke is calling the shots and Botkin is in charge of the LB depth chart.

We'll get out best 11 out there for whatever offense we're facing.

I do not like Shamier Jeffery starting....at all. I feel the way about Shamier as most of you do about Will Sport, except I think Sport really progressed throughout the season last year. Then again, maybe I was so pissed off at the defense that nothing on offense looked bad.

12 M. Scarnecchia | 6-4, 201, RS FR

Nunez is going to get a serious shot ... and if we're forced to use Perry Orth as our second, we're in trouble.

Scarnecchia is actually showing some potential. He's not a scrambler, but he moves well in the pocket.

I'm actually pulling for Mitch.

WR 1 Deebo Samuel | 6-0, 206, RS FR
14 Shaq Davidson | 5-11, 175, RS FR
23 Christian Owens | 6-5, 204, FR

WR 8 Shamier Jeffery | 6-1, 196, RS SR
83 Carlton Heard | 6-0, 185, RS SR
19 Terry Googer | 6-4, 227, RS FR

WR 11 Pharoh Cooper | 5-11, 208, JR
29 Matrick Belton | 6-4, 217, RS JR
9 Jerad Washington | 5-8, 154, FR
87 Sean Odom | 6-0, 197, JR

That's a fairly stout group right there. Six or seven of those guys should get some serious playing time. I hope we can afford to redshirt all the noobs.

quote:

RG 75 Will Sport | 6-5, 304, RS SR
77 Malik Young | 6-3, 323, RS FR

I never thought Will Sport would make it past his RSo year. He has not improved. I dunno why they've kept him this long ... he must have a picture of Eli porking a goat or something.

Still, that OLine is Jr and Sr dominated. I hope it pays off for us this year.

All the defensive guys ... looks about right for now I suppose.

I hope Lewis is all he's billed to be at DE.

Any word on Dante Sawyer?

It's all so hard to predict. Someone will come out of nowhere and turn into a star while someone who is supposed to be a star will totally bust. It never fails.

He is officially enrolled and on campus. That depth chart I posted was from 6/2, so that's why he's not on there. Dante had a big year last year though at JUCO, and he dominated at the US Army All American game at the end of HS. Watch him get close to 10 Sacks this year.

been thinking the same thing... if the football gods will allow, hopefully the star happens to be the backup for the bust.

OL is gonna need Stanley & Park to contribute and play at a high level right away in order for the offense to handle its business.

Pharoh, Deebo and Googer would be a nice trio. Belton is an interesting player with his size as well.

Sawyer, Wideman & M Lewis each have a lot of opportunity and burden at the same time. all 3 a welcome and much needed addition.

Thanks CIYE ... I hope you're right. Ten sacks would probably be more than we had all of last year combined.

Well, right there is the key to our upcoming season IMHO 1801. It usually is all about who's in the trenches. But I think, more than any year I can remember in a long long time ... I think the Sawyer, Wideman, M Lewis dynamic is probably going to be the most important thing imaginable.

Now, the question is, will Deke and Whammy get-er done coaching those three kids? And let's not forget, we actually return some very decent size, speed and talent on that DLine so the addition of those three above should - I say 'should' - fix the weak links in the chain that broke apart last season.

Man oh man this season is so important. I mean it's okay to have a down season - but you gotta bounce right back otherwise it become regression.

This season is massively important.

Shamier has already lost his starting spot that I think he had post spring.

I expect Johnson to take Moody's spot and Sawyer to take Dixon's DE spot.

The OL didn't look like I thought it would. Surprised we moved Shell to LT. I like Waldrop at LG and Knott at C. Sport at RG....he might get replaced by Stanley. Matulis or Zandi at RT...I guess that makes sense. Hopefully, Zandi shows out and earns the RT spot and we move Matulis back to RG.

That's a shame too. His recruiting cycle was filled with "better than Alshon" in HS and it just never worked out.

Hell, if he had had half the career Alshon did he would have had a pretty productive career.

He's going to compete with DJ Smith for the starting Free Safety spot. I think he just enrolled in Summer II session.
