4 SEC Teams projected to make Omaha, 3 SEC East teams.

quote:

South Carolina
2016 Record: 46-18
2016 Finish: Columbia Super Regional

Chad Holbrook orchestrated one of the nation’s best turnarounds in 2016, going from missing Regionals a year ago all the way back to hosting a Super Regional this past season. Gene Cone, Dom Thompson-Williams and Braden Webb are significant losses for the Gamecocks yet the 2017 roster looks like it could be even better than this year’s unit.

Clarke Schmidt, Tyler Johnson and Adam Hill give South Carolina three big-time arms to build on. On top of that, the returns of Wil Crowe and Cody Morris from injury will provide pitching depth that might even rival that of Florida’s.

Alex Destino had a breakout sophomore year but John Jones will need to regain his form from the first half of this season when he put together a first team All-American caliber performer. Incoming freshman Carlos Cortes was arguably the best pure hitter at the 2016 Perfect Game All-American Classic and he could provide immediate impact in the middle of the order.

Interesting that Coastal wasn't included in either the 8 for Omaha or the next 8. Do they lose a lot of players this year?

8 SR on won't be back. OF Owings, OF Marks, 3B Remillard, 1B/C Chadwick all at least 2-year starters at their positions. OF Parrett (27 starts).

RHP Morrison 11 saves & 8-1 record, RHP Poole 10 starts 4-3 record. RHP Hall 2.1 IP only.

Jordan Gore/Conway HS, will be eligible in 2017 after transferring from USC.

Coastal also jumps to the Sun Belt conference next season. Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama, Georgia Southern will bring a different challenge than the Big South outside of Liberty.

Ouch, that's a lot to lose. I'm curious to see what our starting pitching rotation will be like when Crowe returns next season, we should be loaded with arms.

yeah I could actually see Coastal struggling to make the 64 team field. the Sun Belt jump along with replacing 4 field positions each close to/over 100 career starts will be a challenge.

as for USC, I still haven't quite figured out B'ham's scheduling method. I'm guessing we're stuck with TxAM as a perm rival in baseball like football so USC will travel to College Station.

Columbia - Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, Kentucky, Vanderbilt.
Road - Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas AM

I guess LSU, Auburn, Mississippi State will rotate on in 2018.

Holbrook's window to get the program back to Omaha is basically 2017. pitching will be remarkably different in 2018.
