How does the majority of the cocks feel about the CWM hire. In my opinion if he makes a strong OC hire and let's that guy handle the O boom and the DC handles the D you guys will be fine. I think part of his problem at Florida was getting the offensive talent in. So that said the OC hire is the most important.

Thoughts? Or the obligatory GFY lol

OUr defense was great b/w '09 and '13. Then it went to complete shite in '14 and carried through '15. No matter what, we have nowhere to go but UP on defense. Muschamp will bring in better coaches, players and a more competitive/aggressive mindset. I don't think anyone questions what he can do on that side of the ball.

Muschamp's work ethic is also pretty evident, he started booking flights and officially recruiting coaches right away. He's already started t he process to flip some players/coaches and we have some OV's lined up now with guys we had no shot with last week. He can recruit, that's for sure.

It all is going to come down to offense. If he can bring in a good OC, who can utilize what personnel we have effectively, WHILE still building/recruiting an elite group of players for the offense they one day want, that will be key. The new OC is going to have to evaluate what players we have on that side, see how they can be used in things he wants to do and then play to the strengths that our offensive personnel have. Too often an OC comes into a team and tries to make the squad do his program/plays and he doesn't have the personnel to run it (i.e. not enough speed, WR's not tall enough or physical enough, not enough depth a RB, poor OL that can't pass protect etc....)

If the new OC and Off. Position Coaches can continue to develop the players we have and recruit the players we need, we'll be ok.

Boom is going to get a fair amount of talent on the defense this year, but it just hasn't been well coached for 2 years. I think Boom is going to do well, we'll make a bowl next year and everyone will say that progress is being made. Then after 2 of his recruiting classes, we'll start competing again for the division and further.

Honestly, after Herman passed and UGA opened up, which took Smart off the table, I don't see what other options were out there that were a good fit for our needs. We could have gone with Lincoln Riley or a mid major coach, but would they have been able to recruit SC, NC, GA and FL like we needed? I'm cautiously optimistic and it's going to come down to whether or not he learned his lesson on offense and doesn't micromanage too much.

That pretty-much sums-it-up for me as well.

We had to get it done and get the recruiting process underway ... get past all the second-guessing about what went down during the search.

We had to hire a strong recruiter who could assemble a strong staff.

We had to hire someone with energy and enthusiasm for the program, someone who would stick with us for a long long time.

We had to hire someone who was eager to prove himself, to compete in this league, preferably with HC experience.

He wasn't our first choice but, by no means, was he our last.

I am of the opinion that this hire has a good chance for success and that everything works-out for the best in the end.

The more I watch him assembling his staff, recruiting, interacting with the fans, the more convinced I am that this is going to turn-out to be a good hire. Of course, only time will tell.

The positive is the guy can recruit, and can run a defense. I seriously doubt he will make the same mistakes twice.

Well, I know all of us Gamecocks hope he doesn't make the same mistakes twice.

He was in an odd hiring place when he arrived at Florida, plus he had a lot to clean-up in terms of disciplinary issues from Meyer. Expectations can be unreasonably high down there - I get it - but they can be unreasonably high and they are not as patient as they used to be down there.

It's a much different beast here. Expectations are higher than they have ever been, while at the same time we're still fairly patient and understanding of certain things within a reasonable frame of time.

What we absolutely demand though, is intensity. We demand energy. We demand effort. We demand fundamentally sound football. We demand strategic thinking and solid clock management. That's really all we ask ... not to beat ourselves. We demand hard work on the recruiting trail.

Hopefully Boom can give us that most of the time. If he does then things will be good for us and for Boom. We just want to be a blue collar program, not flashy so much ... just win all the games we're supposed to win and many of the games we're not supposed to win.

This is what its all about right here. Muschamp will give you that, something Richt was failing to do his last five years.

I think most Gamecocks are on board completely now with CWM based on his first few days on the job. He has done more in that span, then Spurrier Jr did in the past 4 years. I think we see a coach with a chip on his shoulder who will work tirelessly to not fail again.

The more I think about it, I am happy the way it played out with Smart. Muschamp is a clone of Smart basically just with experience. Yes, it didn't go well at UF, but I'm sure he learned things that Smart can only learn with time being the head man.

His staff is coming together nicely. Roper is kinda questionable and I'm hearing Rumph will join soon which I really question, but the staff he is putting together can all recruit and to win, we need better players and it starts with recruiting.

I think it is a good hire and will prove a lot of people's opinions about Muschamp wrong.

The only uncertain with the hire is the offense/QB play. We will see how Roper works out. He received high praise from Connor Shaw, fwiw.

Optimistically hopefully while being prepared for disappointment. Not because of Muschamp, but because this year absolutely nothing has gone our way.
