I don't think SOS brought him in for no reason. He has wanted him here since day one. He must have made a big enough impression on him from his last three years at Florida to want him here still 11 years later.

Good point.

Jmo, but this is extremely uninspiring, and to me moving brown off the field(and presumably the recruiting trail) just leaves me speechless. He is the only member of the d staff i would even consider hiring if i were building a staff...

This fits after watching jr and sr stumble around their signing day press conference like extras from the walking dead. We are circling the toilet bowl with all the other brown sharks.

shite city.

I don't think it's that bad. Now I don't think it's a grand slam either though. We'll find out this season how good it was, or hopefully sooner this summer if he turns out to be a recruiting machine.

Dabo is an idiot, but I don't think he's even stupid enough to touch this issue negatively with a 10 foot poll. If it got out he did that or if he did so publically, it would backfire on him 10 times worse.

Hoke's contract was approved by the BOT this morning.

$400K base
$350K bonuses (tv-media/apparel/etc....)

Additional Incentives outside of base or bonus:
$50K Winning the SECCG
$30K for participating in any Playoff Game (so could get it twice just for making both games.)
$25K Winning the SEC East
$20K for Cap One Bowl Appearance
$20K for finishing Reg Season in Top3 for Total Defense in the SEC
$15K for Any other bowl game appearance.
$10K for finishing Reg Season in Top6 for Total Defense in the SEC

They give money for anything

Eta: they should give him $100k if he doubles the defensive totals from last year (sacks, tfl's, interceptions....not yards and points given up of course)

That's what I'm a big proponent for. When I draw up contracts for people that have worked for me in some type function that requires a contract, I like to heavily incentive performance.

Hoke has a contract right now that's worth $750K annually and he doesn't have to improve anything technically to get that $750K. There's another $125K in possible Incentives (that's the cap they put in, so even if he wins a SEC, Natty and has a Top3 Defense in the SEC, he can still only get $125K more (also since it would technically be a bonus, it gets taxed close to 40%.) Therefore, he could really only make about $75K in Incentive Bonuses.

If I would've not capped the incentives, and added more like you suggested for ranking in TFL's, Sacks, Turnover's Gained, 3rd Down Conversion Defense and Scoring Defense etc....

Also, you could never convince me that a DC who could win us a SEC and Natty should only get $125K in Incentive Bonuses. I don't believe it. I would absolutely have a 6 figure incentive bonus for winning a natty and quite possibly a SECCG as well.

The only problem is when you start putting more on the back end like that, you limit your options of who you can hire. Every man has his price, and if you can't meet the baseline, no one comes knocking. Unfortunate, since I agree the meat of contracts should be put in the incentive pile, just not the way the market has worked out. It's a symptom of ever increasing salaries.

From the Press Conference.

Hoke will be in charge of the Secondary and LB's

Ward will be in charge of the DL.

Hoke will call the plays.

Ward said he was happy that SOS kept him around for another year. Ward talked about his ability to adapt to change and that he was happy to work with Hoke and learn from him. Ward knew Hoke when Ward was with the Raiders and Hoke was with Houston.

Grady is now titled as Quality Control. He will have the opportunity to come back as a named coach if someone leaves.

SOS said that another QC Coach will be coming. He said that they weren't great on Spec Teams this year and they are going to do some things differently.

Hoke is really happy to be at SC. He said the opportunity to coach again with SOS was the primary reason he came back to the college game.

Spurrier is excited about the pass rushers we have coming in this year, hopes that they're going to help make a big change for the defense.

Side Note: I was told that the $125 is not a Cap to the incentives and those are just the ones we know about, so there could be more opportunity for him to earn income/bonuses.

So in other words, if the defense performs, despite the record or what the team accomplishes, he will be rewarded for improvements. Exactly how it should be.

I'm also glad to see Whammy has vocally said he's on board for the changes. I know he has probably lost a little pride over it, but realizes he still has some learning to do. Hopefully they can all learn from each other and gel as a staff.
