Just wanting to get "experts" opinion as to what most consider the biggest moment in Carolina football...

Coach being hired?
Going to SECCG?
Rogers winning the Heisman?

Heisman is probably up there. Beating a Nick Saban coached Alabama team is probably up there. It may be having 3 consecutive years of no home losses.

For me it was, at the time, the biggest turnaround season in NCAA history in 2000 .... Holtz saved us and does not get enough credit for doing so IMHO. I mean it really began that year with the win over #4 UGA and ended with the win over Ohio State.

I know few will understand this, but that was our "get over the hump" year/season. That season told a lot of us that we could overcome anything and still keep working towards getting to the next level.

Unique to Gamecock fans IMHO, we've always been nose to the grindstone, stay the course type fans ... but that shite show we suffered through in 98 & 99 the result of Fat Bradstard Scott .... that almost did-us-in. That almost cost us permanently.

The Holtz turnaround that year ... it was a positive milestone.

So I would say the hiring of Holtz, (which eventually led to getting Spurrier), and the first win over Ohio State in the Outback Bowl that New Year.

We've had a lot of other memorable things happen ... but that was key in the minds of many.

Edited: To correct many autocorrect errors that I missed while posting in the car with the glare on my phone .... sheesh, that was horrible.

Same for me. I didn't watch it live because I was in Boone at App State for pop's homecoming. We went to that game which was a thriller too. I woke up that morning and I just had a feeling we were gonna win. I told him that morning right before we got in the car to head to the game "Rammer Jammer Yella Hammer, Carolina is beating Alabammer" and sure enough we pulled it off. Amazing feeling.

Yeah, I would think beating #1 Alabama, or beating Florida in the Swamp to win the SEC-East are right up there.

Rogers winning the Heisman and the 1984 season were huge, but their problems were that those moments didn't play huge roles in turning the program's fortunes around.

I always include the 2010 season with the 3 11-win seasons because while we only won 9 gms that season, and got blasted in both the SECCG and bowl gm, there were enough other accomplishments within that season to help spur the program into those 11-win seasons. In fact, I've always felt that the 2010 season was for the program representative of more accomplishment than the 10-2 1984 season.

I also think that beating Alabama that season gave the team enough confidence that when they lost badly to Arkansas later in the season, it didn't faze the team or sap their energy, and they were able to rally past it and beat the Gators.

I almost said beating UF in the Swamp. I made it down there for that one, too. That entire game was like a dream for me. I think Florida took the opening kick to the house, but then we buckled down and took it to them. Lattimore was a man among boys, and that is still the single greatest individual performance I have seen.

1. George
2. Accepted by the SEC, getting us out of the "wilderness."
3. Alshon catching that ball with one hand, enabling us to beat Bama.
4. 56-20
5. Holtz and then Spurrier coming to USC.
6. Beating UNC in 1981 at Chapel Hill when the Heels were ranked # 3 and years later beating # 4 ranked Ole Miss.

Growing up, my biggest moment was the entire '84 season, I was 10 years old and those were my formative years as a young Gamecock. My favorite game ever was the '92 Tennessee game; my freshman year at Carolina and our inaugural year in the SEC, where Hank Campbell stopped Tennessee short on a 2-pt conversion attempt to their tight end to preserve a 24-23 win that was also during filming of The Program. I remember our student section was a blizzard of cups in the (then) south end zone.

But I tend to agree with scrooster, Holtz's turnaround in 2000 culminating in a victory over Ohio State in the Outback Bowl played an integral role in our development as a program over the last 15 years. If not for that miraculous turnaround, it's hard to see Holtz staying for 4 more years with any success and certainly difficult to envision Spurrier taking the reigns and coaching as long as he did.

It kills me inside that we didn't win more division titles when we were clearly the best team from 2011-2013, but that 2010 UF game was something.

- never won in the Swamp before.
- we've had big games with UF before only to lose and usually get clobbered.
- first kick off we get called for a penalty, rekick, UF scores a TD. It looked bad.
- from that point forward we just hammered UF with particular emphasis on Lattimores game.

The special moment for me was watching at home they showed a graphic of all the times each East team had made it to the SECCG, of course ours had 0 at the beginning. Near the end of the game they put it back up and there was a 1 next to ours and it was surreal to look at.

Beating UF to win the SECE.

First of five wins over Clemson was what I thought really got the ball rolling to the height of the Spurrier era.

First Bowl win in the Outback.

The win over Bama.
