Ward spent 4 days watching the Dallas Cowboy's defense work out to learn more about the 4-3 scheme. Dallas's DC is Rod Marinelli who was the DC at Chicago when Hoke was the DB coach there (2009-12) and uses the same defense that Hoke is implementing here. It appears that Ward is doing everything he can to learn the new defensive scheme and how to coach it which in turn will make him a better coach.
The new emphasis is on getting off the ball quickly and strongly instead of read and react which is what they did last year. They have thinned out the playbook so there will be a lot less confusion and less to think about. I think with the new less complicated more physical scheme along with the upgrade in talent the defense will be night and day from what we witnessed last year.

Well shite. As a Dallas fan I can assure everybody that the Dallas defense is not a place to go study if you're trying to improve your defense

That 4-2-5...that didn't work for me last year, I think it's an outdated scheme, what else should I do
The hell you mean 'it's outdated?!?!' it's basically a nickel defense and they've been running it in the Pro's and College for decades.
yeah, maybe, but teams got all kinds of yards on that defense I borrowed from your playbook.
The problem wasn't the scheme, you failed to recruit the players to execute it past the ones Lawing and I gave you. GTFO!
