Looks like it's going to be called Founders Park?

The State is the only article I found that said the name. LINK

Meh.

I know he didn't want it when he was coach, and won't want it as AD, but that damn field needs to be Tanner Field. Or something like that.

The success he has had and the one that helped build that stadium makes him the obvious choice.

If he doesn't want it give it to Raines, who I think is still the all-time winningest coach.

We are baseball rich. Something we can't say in most sports. Please name the field after a Gamecock legend.

Signed,

tGW

My opinion is that I'd much much rather have it be a non-corporate name.

However, it isn't the worst sounding corporate sponsor name either. I don't see how fans can take the "KFC Yum Center" seriously.

Yeah, if we had to have sponsors. Colonial Life and Founders aren't bad. For God's sake.. the Pelicans play in the Smoothie King Center.

Founders Park is actually a MUCH better name than it could have been. I think this is solid.

Could have been MUCH worse. Lizard's Thicket Park, AFLAC Field, Sansbury Eye Center Field, WalMart Park, etc...

I like it ... Founders Park. Non fans will think it is named because of Thomas Sumter and Francis Marion or something - or a Founding Father outta Charlietown or something.

It leaves it open to the imagination. Although I imagine there will be Founders Federal Credit Union stuff all over the ball park.

I think Ray's name will eventually be on the field ... or it'll be called The Ray, or something like that.

Founders pay 1.4 million dollars per year with their current 10 year contract. That includes all of the "bonus perks" they added in. On just the name basis, it is a staggering $450k a year! /sarcasm

I'm not one to turn down money, especially with a program that needs it, but we could have made more money I suspect. A lot more.

Edit: thinking about it, it's not too bad for baseball I guess.

That's actually big money for naming rights of a college baseball stadium. I'm hearing it may be the second biggest in the country for a college baseball stadium.

I asked about the signs inside the stadium this morning at breakfast and was told the naming rights only include the naming rights ($4.5 million) and the billboards inside the stadium will garner us another $2.5 million for a total of $7.5 million over ten years. $750,000.00 per year would make us #2 for a college baseball stadium.

The record is $13.1 million for a college baseball field (UT Austin UFCU Disch-Falk field) but it was a gift in 2005 and was prorated over fifteen years for a yearly breakdown at $873,000.00 per year. Even after the fifteen year period is over and payments stop the field will remain UFCU Disch-Falk field although they could, conceivably, rename the stadium structure itself something else if the money was right.

As it was explained to me, it's extremely rare for a college ballpark to be considered worthy of naming rights ... although it is extremely common among minor league parks.

ETA: Well, dammit, I guess I should have read the article linked first. Damn. I guess I didn't really find out anything everyone else didn't already know. Crap. I even took notes.

You're right. All this football stuff has clouded my judgement on the amount of money it would be for a college baseball stadium. It's not too shabby.

I work for FFCU, and this a pretty big deal for us. We just broke into the Columbia market, and this is a great way for us to market our brand. Compared to what Colonial Life pays for the basketball arena, this is about par for the course, IMO.

Great ceremony and press conference today at the stadium as the logo was unveiled. Tanner and Holbrook has some great things to say about the partnership there.

I saw the logo on Twitter. It actually looks great. I'm excited for this.

Hopefully this partnership leads to more upgrades for the stadium so that it can continue to be one of the best parks in the country..

Not bad at all.

Indeed. And for the school to get it when the city is building a minor league park says something about the program.

We have had a relationship with the University and Athletic Dept. for a while now, and our newest branch is located inside the Russell House. I am glad that we went this route, too.

I'm cool with the corporate names but my only gripe is the logo. Wish they would have incorporated the logo in there somewhere.

Interesting trivia

KFC is headquartered in Louisville, KY which is home to the Cardinals

Football Stadium big donor is Pizza Hut
Basketball Arena big donor is Kentucky Fried Chicken
Baseball Stadium big donor is Long John Silvers

IF you ever meet Line Beards in person, this makes sense.
