The Radio Announcer Torch Has Been Passed (finally)

I grew up listening to Jim Fyffe and I never thought I'd enjoy a radio call as much as Jim's again. Jim was special. He was an Auburn icon that I thought would never be replaced. I am still sad he didn't live to see the 2004 or 2010 season.
However, Rod Bramlett's calls on the Prayer in Jordan-Hare and the Kick Six will forever be engrained in my soul. I'm fairly certain that those two calls will bring me a smile and send chills down my spine forever. Great job Rod, I'm sure Jim loved those calls too.

"Auburn's gonna win the football game! Auburn's gonna win the football game!!!" "They're not keeping them off the field tonight!"
Awesomeness.

Rod gets extra points for the "kick six" call because he was being mauled by Stan and everyone else in the press box.

There was a feature on Rod & Stan on AU Every Day a while back (2009 if I'm not mistaken).
It showed how they prepared for the game, did pregame interviews, etc. Then it showed them in the booth for a touchdown call, and right after describing the play, Rod turned to Stan and high-fived him.
That's about the time I accepted him as our new play-by-play guy.

I liked Jim as much as anybody. I was at AU in the 80's and he will always make me think of that time, but I've never understood why people keep comparing these two guys. Rod's done a fine job from day one.

My call would have been stricken from history for all the profanity of joy i was yelling.

They each have their own special touch, frankly I'm glad he continued the "Touchdowwwwwwwwn Auburn." But NOONE can say it quite like Fyfe did.

From a thread I started after Georgia that no one commented on:
Rod H\has really cemented him in my mind as Auburn's play by play man. The "go crazy Cadillac" was his signature call(and it was good) before the Hail Mary, but that was one for the ages. I have listened to it 30 times and just get chills every time. He genuinely was shocked and the "miracle at Jordan Hare!" he threw in at the end was fantastic. I am 34 and grew up listening to Fyffe and always missed him when listening to Rod. Dont get me wrong Rod is/was good I just felt like Jim was more emotionally attached to the team(like Crystal & Munson etc) but after last night Rod has changed my mind. He wears his love for Auburn on his sleeve, amazing call!

I have been a fan of Rod for a while. Some did not want to let go of Fyffe but Rod has done a great job..
I like him. I like his style and I think he is the voice of Auburn

Yep, Fyfe's 1993 Iron Bowl call was the greatest. I do like Rod though.

Speaking of announcers, if you live in the Bham area (not sure if the station is elsewhere), you can watch the Iron Bowl on the Bama tv station with Eli Gold's radio call for audio. On DirecTv, it's channel 23 WUOA

Compare Rod to Eli Gold. One genuinely loves his team while the other sounds like he's just cashing in a paycheck each week.
