What if their was a fight for the fumble in the end zone and possession wasn’t determined until after the play was over via review
In that case the possession occurred during the play. Doesn't matter if they had to use replay to determine who had the ball.
A fumble through the end zone "awards" the defense the ball after the play has ended. ( Which I don't agree with but it is the rule) if they recovered (earned on field during the play) during the play then penalty enforced from original LOS.

Personal fouls have ways been that way. The only reason we're even having this discussion is the fumble. Were the runner cleanly tackled, it seems people wouldn't have this mental hang up about the enforcement. The play was retroactively dead when the runner lost the ball because of the penalty. It's not sloppily written. That is the intent of the rule.

I don't think there would have been any change in the eventual result.
There's not a remote chance it changed the result
With that said I've read the thread and have no idea what to think as far as what the rule book says. I see both sides but I'll say this the rule should be tweaked to where the ball doesn't get spotted that way IF thats what the rule book says currently which again, I can't tell

Either the call or the rule is bad. Don’t know which, but what they did should not be the result.
Should be penalty from previous spot. I think everyone agrees that a team shouldn’t get the ball at the spot of the fumble, just doesn’t seem right. Common sense here.
If Tenn recovers in end zone it goes back, so why not when ball goes out? It’s the same result

I agree. I think it is overly harsh though. In most cases you take the result of the play or the penalty. In this instance they basically got both minus the bad outcome of the play.

I will have to count on you to post that. I found what appears to be the rule and it doesn't seem like it makes any distinction.

I don’t agree with that assessment.

The call was correct and off course you don't agree with the end result, because it was Bama.

Why, the other team never recovered said fumble and had a PF penalty.

Did TN recover the ball? Nope, that's why.

They had a terrible call on our long punt return and they missed another call on 10rc's INT return.

They also messed up the defensive holding call a few plays later. They replayed 3rd down when it should have been an automatic first.
I believe that you are wrong on that as well. I've read that it is only an Automatic 1st down on a pass play, Hurts never threw the ball on that play so it is not an auto 1st down but a 5yard penalty and in this case 1/2 the distance and replay the down.

Wrong.
NCAA Rule 9-3-4
In the 2009-10 edition of the NCAA Football Rulebook, Rule 9 covers “Conduct of Players and Others Subject to the Rules.” Section 3 covers “Blocking, Use of Hands or Arms” and Section 4 is directed at defensive players.

Section 3, Article 4 of Rule 9 states that a “defensive player may use hands and arms to push, pull, ward off or lift offensive players when attempting to reach the runner.” But they may not use hands and arms to tackle, hold or otherwise illegally obstruct an opponent other than a ball carrier. This is, by definition, defensive holding and carries a 10-yard penalty that is awarded to the offense as well as an automatic first down.
You're probably confusing Def. holding and pass interference. When a receiver is held before the pass is thrown, it's holding, but if it occurs while the ball is in the air, it's pass interference.

In this particular case, really don’t care if it’s Bama or whoever. Everyone agrees that shouldn’t be the result.
The only question is bad rule or bad call. It appear based on this thread that it’s a bad rule that will have to be tweaked. but nonetheless everyone with a brain and common sense knows what happened shouldn’t be the result given those circumstances
