Why not fire Gus and let Steele interim?

For the second time this season Gus has gotten in his own way on the big stage. I'm not saying Gus called plays, but he certainly decided to put the brakes on in the second quarter. Is it too radical too remove him and see what our offensive coordinator can really do? We have the most talented AU team since 2004. This same scenario will happen against ATM, UGA, and UA.

JJ is not firing Coach Gus Lovelace.

At some point, JJ will “retire” and we can begin to move forward.

Why do we pay JJ so much?

Lower his salary to $83000. See if he can get a real job. No one would hire JJ to attend a parking lot or clean a toilet. Gay porn as a receiver is his only potential skill.

Because we aren’t firing a coach in the middle of the season. It’s the Auburn way.

Then it's a wasted season. KJ and KP are likely gone. We'll lose some defensive guys as well. I don't see how we're going to be more talented next year.

We lose basically the entire offensive line, too. Smith, Golson, James, Dunn, all gone.

In fairness, that could be to our benefit. Having average guys (excluding Smith) that play because they are older can often inhibit growth in the younger talented guys. Greg Robinson benefitted in 2013 because nobody was better than him in 2012 so he got lots of reps.

I would suggest making Horton the Interim. You wouldn't want an O scenario.

If we did go that route I'd think somebody like Garner would be interim. But we won't because the guy that needs to fire Gus needs to be shown the door as well.

We might as well let Gus go now, find our guy, I would rather someone else come in and rebuild it than let Gus go 5-7 next year and the new buy be a year behind.

I agree 100%. The longer he stays and the longer we wait, the more damage will be done to the program. But it's not going to happen

Something tells me Gus has known he is leaving at the end of the season, regardless.

It would be a perfect time to leave once JJ is gone and he knows it. I always heard from Arkansas people that when the going gets tough, he tucks and runs.

Pat Dye will be on am740 out of Montgomery tomorrow morning @ 7:30. Can’t wait to gauge his temperature.
