I'm picking Msu because I have no money on the game but inside I know it's unlikely. I think LSU has two of the best coordinators in college football and they are loaded with talent. The key for Msu is to not give up early points while our defense gets comfortable.

We really do have a good defense that seems to take a few to get into the flow of the game. I expect LSU to run the ball 70% to 30% passing so the key is to slow down that run early. If LSU puts 7 points on the board quick and early, it could be a long night. Mullen does better with an early lead.

It will be more evenly split. If LSU runs the ball that much, MSU is losing and losing big.

Running the ball is their true strength. The only way it goes 50/50 is if Msu has success slowing the run.

I've been meaning to ask a State fan this: Is there a matchup where you think MSU has a clear advantage?

Maybe their long snapper is better.

Punter

I'd say QB as well, but it's not like offenses play against each other.

I'm serious though. I'm listening to Mississippi State radio podcasts and they're saying that the MSU DL is better than the LSU OL. I'm hearing that LSU doesn't have the WRs to challenge MSU's DBs. I'm hearing how Danny Etling is the worst QB in the SEC. I'm hearing that Key is pulling a Clowney and won't play. I've heard nothing about LSU's defense and guys like Devin White, Greedy Williams, or Corey Thompson.

I'm on my 5th radio podcast and it's the same thing over and over. Is it because of Orgeron? Because they've played them close and won the last 3 years?

Interesting article. I knew when "O" was in Starkville something was up. Of course we later found out. Anyway, nice article.

From appearances our Dline is a bit ahead of your Oline, we will see.

rmnldr I don't know which podcasts you are listening to and by who but here is my honest take. The only thing you mentioned they said that I agree with is our DL vs your OL. I do think our DL is better than your OL.

As far as anyone saying your WR's are not good is dumb. Danny Etling is a good QB for Canada's system. Save yourself the trouble and just ignore it. I make up my own mind and don't need a podcast to tell me anything.

I listened to stuff on the bulldog radio network or something. Just finished "the boneyard"

And I've heard this said a lot about the MSU DL and I just don't see how they'll be able to beat the OL for 4 quarters. Outside of Simmons, who is going to consistently beat one of the 5? Is there a particular matchup outside of Simmons/Ingram or Charles that I should be watching for?

I ask because I do bet and don't want to be missing something. I've yet to be able to watch the La Tech game and I'm going off of Charleston Southern tape.

That's because just like LSU, Mullen's defense has more not seen on tape via rotating guys for experience.

Yes, we have some serious fast big guys in our front 7. To assume Simmons is the only guy to worry about would be a mistake. I'm quite sure Canada knows that and has tweaked the offense accordingly. Simmons will get doubled teamed much of the game. You'll have to. That leaves the guys we keep low profile on a big opportunity.

I think LSU has overall better talent and I'm not thinking MSU wins although I picked us since I didn't bet on the game.

Any names I should watch for? I know Simmons and Sweat on DL and Gay and Lewis at LB

The match-up on the interior will be fun to watch. Clapp is an all SEC center and the woman beater is a heck of a player for MSU. It's not likely LSU will leave the young OL alone when dealing with him, Clapp will be there.
The wildcard is LSU's new system and the hesitation is causes the front 7 to play with. The shifts and misdirection creates moments of doubt and at times bad decisions by the defensive front.
MSU's secondary is not very good.

Given LSU's ability to shut-down Heisman winning QB's, both historically and recently, I don't see MSU moving the ball consistently. They lack a support staff around Fitz. He's fun to watch, but there are just not enough tools around him to deal with this defense. Aranda is earning his $$$.

I don't see this being very close come mid 4th quarter and LSU will be running out clock to end the game.

Fletcher Adams and Cory Thomas on the DL. Gerri Green and Dez Harris at LB.

Honestly, this may be the 2nd best front 7 Mullen has had. Problem is depth at NG, DE, and OLB. We have 1 solid backup at DE and OLB. The backup NG is average at best. This could be a game where depth is a big factor in the 2nd half.

Agreed. Outside of 2010 with McPhee, Boyd, and Cox on it, this is one of the best ones I've seen talent wise.
