I'll be honest, I know absolutely NOTHING about MSU this season other than fitz being a baller and a major headache both in the air and as a runner. Other than that though I am completely clueless. It seems a lot of people are overlooking this game but I'd like to know a little more about what to expect. What are your position units like? Strengths (besides QB) and weaknesses? I'd be happy to chime in about our team as well. Any of yall making the trip to Athens?

Game is in Athens, would give UGA the edge. We're going to be pretty one-dimensional this season. We have the least experienced O-line in the conference, so I don't think Mullen is going to be putting too much pressure on them by passing a lot. Fitz is hit and miss in the pass game anyways. If we beat LSU, maybe you should worry. If we lose to LSU, we'll lose to UGA.

You have just as many questions as our fans do. We had a lot of coaching turnover on defense and still am not sure how much Fitz has improved. Everything about our team except running backs is questionable.

I personally don't know what to expect from thsi team other than we should be a little better on defense b/c there's no way in hell we could be worse.

I think we are going to have a strong rushing attack with an O-line who will be talented, but inexperienced.

QB and RB will be very solid. This should give Fitz a little more margin for error in the passing game as teams will try to talk up safeties to stop the run.

WR is a huge question mark. We have a few guys who had a good season last year, but certainly no headliner. Also, one of our best play makers Malik Dear is out with a Torn ACL. We need a young guy to step up big.

Defense is the question that no one can answer. As stated already we had a lot of turnover in the coaching staff, and people are optimistic that we will be better.

The front 7 has talent, but it's just a question of whether we can get stops to help the offense a little. Secondary has a lot returning, but that's not saying much when we were as bad as we were last year. I am cautiously optimistic about the D, but am certainly still in " Wait and see" mode.

I am making the trip to Athens this year, and am very excited about it. I haven't been since I lived in Carrollton, GA early in my career. Going to be a great time.

This sounds almost exactly like us honestly. QB should be pretty good, RB/TE for us shoudl be elite. OL was bad last year and has a lot of young/inexperienced guys but will no question have "more talent". WRs were a huge disappointment last year so likewise are a question mark this year.

I really like our defense though, we return 10 starters and should be quite good. We always seem to struggle with QBs who can run though so who knows.

How did UGA fans feel about Kirby Smart's first year? I didn't watch much georgia football, but did you improve over the year?

Also, I was listening to a talk radio show and they said the talent Smart inherited wasn't great -- I thought Richt consistently had top 15 classes, was that wrong?

MSU folks should probably be asking Georgia folks about what to expect from our new DC, Todd Grantham. He will be the reason we get better .. 'if' we get better. Our defense and placekicking were our biggest weaknesses last year. FG kicking cost us 3-4 games. Pass defense was horrid and we had little to no pass rush.

Offense will run through the QB Fitz. He was 2nd in the SEC rushing with 1375 yards. Passing game was erratic and we lost our #1 WR. Offense will be better 'if' QB completion % increases and a couple of new receivers emerge. Running game seems solid with Williams as starter and lot of depth.

On paper, defense looks improved. LBs are proven. Several JC defenders arrived and should contribute,

No surprises for me on the projected starters for this week... OK, maybe Resse at RT, but that is definitely a good, long-term move if nothing else.

I am optimistic about the D. More experience and better coaching should give us better results. I think. Hopefully. Please. I do like having Peters at CB.

It will be interesting to see if Fitz has learned to go through his reads this year. Improving his accuracy is one thing, but he threw into coverage way too much last year because he didn't go to his 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th option. I think he can make the offense function through brute force, but it would be nice to see it clicking the way it is designed to work.

We kinda did, a little. I feel very good about Kirby though, there is simply not too much you can tell about a guy in his first year ever as a head coach (with a TFr QB to boot). We had some bonehead games and calls and our record stunk but pretty much everything was starting from scratch. I don't think you can really judge a guy until he has a full 4 year recruiting cycle under his belt.

That isn't wrong but it's very misleading. Richt did routinely bring in top ~10 classes but the catch is that they were usually good for about 3rd-5th in the SEC. Two other things to note are that the good talent we do have was certainly not on the OL which is critical, and a lot of it is awfully young. Kirby had a top 10 class in 16 and the #3 class last year. So yes there is "talent on the roster" but much of it is young and inexperienced. We were woefully depleted in both talent and depth on the OL, so regardless of how good your RBs or QB are you aren't gonna do much without a line.

he's a mixed bag, I don't think you'll see any UGA fans sad he's not here anymore. When he was chock full of talent the defense was very very good, if he can't out-talent the other team you may struggle. The biggest thing you'll hear about him is his playbook is far too big and complex for college kids. One of our safeties said his playbook in the NFL was half as big as Granthams. The first year or 2 he was here it was maddening because the secondary was constantly thinking instead of just playing and reacting, and you could see it in their play. His last year here in 2013 was statistically the worst defense UGA has ever fielded in our history. They gave up 30 points 8 times and 40 points 3 times.

...and yet those numbers were way better than the shitshow we put on the field last year. L'ville fans are in for a rude awakening.

Last year (if LINK is correct):
yds given up per game:
State: 445 yds
Louisville 322
Scoring:
State: 31.0
Lousville: 23.8

So, what you are saying is that we beat last year's average by 412 yards.

A) It was Charleston Southern.
B) Don't give a frick. Those guys were salty yesterday.
