Blue Chip teams

This is typically where you'll find who are the most likely teams to be in the playoff. If you're in the top 10 and have your QB situation figured out, you're probably going to be really good.

Very surprised that UF has dropped off as much as they have. TAMU also dropped out of blue-chip status.

AU has risen by 6% from 53% in 2014 to 59% in 2017 for blue-chip ratio.

It is amazing how we waste so much talent and resources. If we ever back into a coach like Saban, we could go on a deep decade long run.

Doesn't have as much to do with the coach, as it does the QB. If we have a really good QB, we're an SEC title team pretty much every time. If we don't, we're 7-5 or 8-4. And no, that isn't the case for every team. Plenty of teams have good QBs and don't win the SEC.

Malzahn has this program in phenomenal shape. I think his best coaching is ahead of him.

AU also plays four other teams on that list. No doubt we have wasted some big opportunities but when you play Alabama, Georgia & LSU every year it makes life tough

Yep this is my big takeaway. When you play 4 teams on the list, 2 on the road, and 3 of them every single year.. Its hard to run a clean slate

Agreed if Malzahn can figure out the Chip Offense sharing experiment.

While we've had talent for the past decade, this is the first time we've had balanced talent acros the roster. I feel like that is a bigger deal than people want to recognize

We have wasted some opportunities, but most teams have. Schedule and injuries have a lot to do with that. Still in the last 15 years, Auburn has had 2004, 2010 and 2013. We are due this year, but if we win this year or next, I say we exceed expectations.

Even though UGA beats us (Schedule), they are the kings of underperforming. Same goes for TAMU, UT, etc.

ETA: From an article about Texas:
This year's recruiting class was born in 2000, and Herman is quick to point out that since they were 12 years old, those players have seen only five teams win the national title (Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, FSU, Auburn).

This....as well as having the QB position figured out (and not just 1 good starter and some bums behind him)

Friend of mine mentioned he watched a preseason NFL game and both of the starting QBs went to Tenn. (he is a Tenn. fan). I had to pause and think when there was a time that AU had a starting QB in the NFL for preseason or regular season. Unless I am wrong, you have Cam (obvious) but then you have to go all the way back to Jason Campbell. Think about that for a moment. That is a huge gap.

First of all, just remember that was a preseason game.....

Secondly, yes that is a huge gap.

Finally, Most QBs don't generally last a long time unless they're one of the good ones though. But we definitely shouldn't be going 6 years between NFL starting QBs all of the time. I think Stidham will be an NFL QB soon.

Oh, I know, just preseason game, but you have got to be kidding me that AU can't produce a clip board holding (just start a preseason game) QB. It was very depressing.
