Need more details. How old is your friend? Is the friend looking for an apartment or house? What kind of budget is he wanting to spend. How close does he want to be to key places in Columbia?

South side of Columbia, just past Nifong. To the West of Forum as well. Best area for living in columbia, hands down.

Just northwest of the Providence/Stadium intersection is one of the nicest/oldest areas of town that is very close to downtown and campus. Prices aren't cheap there. South/southwest Columbia is really nice too.

Basically west of Providence and south of Broadway. The closer you stay to Providence and Broadway the closer you are to campus, and that's kind of a cool old neighborhood.
