Awhile back there was a lot of discussion as to the Strength of schedule this year compared to last.
The SOS for:
2015 ended up at 55.
2016 ended at 71.
Apparently we played a much tougher schedule last year, than this year. This is NOT, I repeat, NOT trying to insinuate, hint or say anything. It is just to settle the argument. I was arguing that at the end of the year, the SOS would show that we played a tougher schedule last year than this.

Are you sure your ranking for 2015 is correct? 55th? I'm reading 23rd...if I'm looking at it right.

I would not argue that we missed several opportunities to win games. Setting aside the fact that we had new coaches, so-so Wide Receivers, Chubb who may or may not have been 100% and a porous Offensive line, we still should have beaten Tenn, Vandy and GT. The fact that we did not end up 8 - 4 or better for the season is a real shame.

What are you reading? It's 55th with Bama in 2015 and 52nd so far this year thanks to ole miss dropping off big time from start to finish.

Yeah bama on last year's is going to drive that number way up just from that one game.
UNC(16) is far better than ULM(15), and missouri, vandy, UK, AU, and tech are all better this year than last.

SOS is the # in parentheses next to the 71.24(52nd) for '16 season before bowl game...
'15 was 71.42(55th) for the full season...
'15 was 71.42(55th) for the full season...

Too bad Vandy and tech improved enough to beat us by a point

I was confused by all that, too, when we were all discussing it. We were going by the Sched. Rank over toward the middle of the page, though. Hope that helps.

You're right. I was looking at the numerical value and not the rank. 52 is correct, for this year. Still, they are about even. And, with the poor (relatively) opponent we are playing in the bowl game, I would guess, if we win, that will go lower. That's just a guess, though. It's a far cry from the 26 or whatever it was much earlier.

On the other hand, Nicholls State would be MUCH worse than anybody we played last year. Not sure Missouri would count much better, either, but that would be debatable, for sure. You are also right about Alabama being a big driving force for a higher SOS.
The ones you mentioned would all be stronger teams, while Nicholls State, Ole Miss, Florida and maybe Tennessee would all be considered worse teams.
I would have ranked UL Monroe with ULL and called that pretty even. Maybe Southern with Nicholls? I would still give Southern the edge. then we have Georgia Southern, who was a pretty good team.
The biggest difference would definitely be swapping Alabama for Ole Miss, though.

Yeah....after djsdawg pointed it out, I went back and took another look.

No they weren't.Their defense was shite this year (127) compared to top 15 last year...they also won more games.
UT and Ole Miss also had horrible defenses
