This has been the case for several years.

The problem, generally, has been the lack of long term starters-- a large number of SEC teams have cycled through starting quarterbacks, with few tenures being even a full two seasons under center-- and the exceptions have either been underwhelming (Harris, Dobbs), or the really good ones around the league (Dak, Allen)-- which is really what TN and LSU should pin their hopes on this year, that their experienced signal callers find their strides.

OM has done pretty well with 2 year quarterbacks of late- but no one else has quite that kind of experience. When you get QB situations like Florida, Georgia, or Vanderbilt, it is very hard to get good QB play from week to week, or for any single player to establish themselves as The Guy, for long enough to get that top end experience.

Can anyone remember a year that the QB situation was as bad across the board?

Yes it is the least promising year for QBs in the SEC. I'll go back as far as 2009.

These were the top QBs coming into the last several years. It's the year they were entering and plus their previous year performance.

2016
- Kelly 65.1% 4542 total yards 41 total TDs 13 ints
- Dobbs 59.6% 2962 total yards 26 total TDs 5 ints
- Harris 53.6% 2348 total yards 17 total TDs 6 ints (12 games)
- Lambert 63.3% 1959 pass yards 13 total TDs 2 ints (12 games)

2015
- Prescott 61.5% 11 ints 4435 total yards 41 total TDs
- Mauk 53.4% 14 ints 3021 total yards 27 total
- Towles 57.1% 9 ints 3021 total yards 20 total TDs
- B Allen 56.0% 5 ints 2285 pass yards 22 total TDs

2014
- Wallace 64.8% 3701 total yards 24 total TDs 10 ints
- Marshall 59.4% 3044 total yards 26 total TDs 7 ints
- Prescott 58.4% 2766 total yards 22 total TDs 7 ints (11 games)
- B. Allen 49.6% 1552 pass yards 14 total TDs 10 ints (11 games)

2013
- Manziel 68.0% 5116 total yards 47 total TDs 9 ints
- Murray 64.5% 3893 pass yards 39 total TDs 10 ints
- Wallace 63.9% 3348 total yards 30 total TDs 17 ints
- McCarron 67.2% 2933 pass yards 31 total TDs 3 ints
- Russell 58.6% 2897 pass yards 26 total TDs 10 ints
- Shaw 67.5% 2391 total yards 20 total TDs 7 ints (11 games)
- Mett 58.8% 2609 pass yards 12 TDs 7 ints (hey man, 2600 pass yards is Christmas under Les Miles )

2012
- Murray - 59.1% 3248 total yards 37 total TDs 14 ints
- Wilson - 63.2% 3638 pass yards 28 total TDs 5 ints
- McCarron - 66.8% 2684 pass yards 18 total TDs 5 ints
- Shaw - 65.4% 1973 total yards 22 total TDs 6 ints (10 games)

2011
- Murray 61.1% 3216 total yards 28 total TDs 8 ints
- Garcia 64.2% 3281 total yards 26 total TDs 14 ints
- Masoli 56.4% 2583 total yards 20 total TDs 13 ints
- Relf 59.0% 2477 total yards 17 total TDs 6 ints

2010
- Mallet 55.8% 3624 pass yards 32 total TDs 7 ints
- Garcia 55.3% 3084 total yards 21 total TDs 10 ints
- McElroy 60.9% 2591 total yards 18 total TDs 4 ints
- Jefferson 61.5% 2337 total yards 18 total TDs 7 ints (12 games)

The guys that came into 2013 were the outlier and that was truly the year of the QB.

The crazy thing is the best returning QB this year was thought of like a lot of the new QBs this year . Like Kelly last year a lot of these QBs are not replacing any great QBs from last year so they could be upgrades.
