Running back
Defensive tackle
Corner back
Defensive end
Safety
Linebacker
Wide receiver
Oline
Qb
Put linebackers do low because the great ones tend to be the signal callers of the defense.

Here is my list:
That should cover it.

Terrible way to phrase it. No position "only takes athleticism" to excel at.
Defensive end relies on it the most though.

So there isn't much room for kids who are pure athletes but aren't technically sound at their position? I'll buy that. However I still think in college there is a gradient to the positions as to which ones require more technical skill vs others to be great.

At kick/punt returner maybe. See Korliss Marshall, Dominique Reed, Joe Adams, etc.. Nowhere else though.
I definitely wouldn't say Alex Collins had to rely on his athleticism to be a great RB. The combine showed us how little athleticism he actually has.
Ignoring special teams, I'd rank them like this.
DE
OLB
DT
ILB
DB
RB
OT
WR
OG/C
QB

Good call on PR's. The ones I played with were super athletic, but also half cray-cray. Takes a special person to have the balls to field punts.
DE's were always the freaks and not the smartest. Sort of like a dumb dog that understood to actually chase and get the ball, but couldn't bring it back like it was supposed to.

If anything, maybe Nose gaurd. They normally just plug holes

Corners are top for me because they rely on agility and recovery for so much of what they do. Be a athlete and stick to your man is the job.

I gotta disagree with y'all on CBs. Yeah they have to be athletic, but they're also going against some of the quickest players on the field, who have the advantage of knowing where they are running. Not to mention the CB is often at a size disadvantage.
Probably one of the most difficult positions to play at a high level.

I think your comments support that CB's rely on athleticism more than any other position on the field.

What I'm saying is it takes amazing athleticism just to have a chance at CB. But you need more than that to excel at the position.

very true and it holds water for all positions at the D1 level.
It's why we see so many 4 and 5 stars never pan out and the phrase "Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane."
Hope Deatrich Wise sheds that tag for good this year.

I believe the info coming out today that the DB's played too heavy last season and lost some speed and agility only supports my stance that CB's rely the most on athleticism.
