Went to Q39 and Joes. Both places had great food. I liked Joes a little better. Was really impressed with the city of KC. great place.

Did you get a Z-man?

Z-Man is awesome.
For those going to Q39, get a competition plate. Also get the white bean cassoulet and fries. Ridiculous.

Naw. Went with a few people. We basically got a pound of everything, slab of ribs and a lot of beer. I got the Judges plate at Q.

I love the Z man, and go to Joe's whenever I can.
I used to like Arthur Bryant's more when you could tip the cooks for more food. That, and their red cream cola.

Back in KC. Went to Jack Stack. They had a Prime Crown Beef Ribs that was pretty amazing.

quote:Have you tried John Brown Smokehouse in Long Island City? It's KC style and I like it. But yeah, it's slim pickins for BBQ in this city.
Now I'm in nyc tbough so bbq is few and far in between although I've found some good ones.
I would kill for a rack of ribs that was worth a damn up here.

so a southern style BBQ food truck would be a gold mine up there?

Also, if anyone has St Louis recommendations I'd appreciate it.
Pappy's gets a lot of love here locally (and it is good) but I'm spoiled on Memphis style too and Pappy's isn't that.
I had scoped out a place in the western suburbs called Lil' Mickey's Memphis style, but as we rolled up an hour before closing time the owner comes out to wave us off and come back tomorrow. By the smell it was definitely Memphis style and apparently they learned their craft from Neely's in Memphis (they're related). We ended up eating at Bandana's (a BBQ chain) and it was fine, but again not Memphis style.
Interesting you'll be in Columbia since it's your turn to come to our place. I had a great time two years ago. Met Trey Flowers parents and a lot of great Razorback fans. A lot of friendly ribbing both ways. Plus I got to rush the field with my daughter! Good times.

KC BBQ is definitely mediocre if you've had Memphis or Texas BBQ.

That's just a stupid statement. Sorry.

I was up in KC three weeks ago and stopped in at PlowBoys. It's pretty good

Agree on Memphis. Would put Texas slightly above KC, but not too far.
Carolina is the tits
KC is pretty much the worst variant though. Just tastes like brown sugar on meat at half the iconic places
