what do you think about Auburn being ranked 31? Are we that far off from being a top 25 defense?
Outside of the LSU game & OT vs Arkansas defense was solid. They weren't elite but they were good enough for us to win more games than we did. I mean even against Alabama, that score looks worse because Henry scored late or they would have held that offense to under 25 pts. Personally I think we have the pieces for a top 25 defense but until guys like Adams, Lawson, Matthews & Lawrence play a full season of high level football like they have flashed at times it's won't happen
At end of day the AU will go as far as offense takes it under Gus. Defense has to have some sort of a pulse (see 2014) but if they are top 40 good & Gus's offense is running at level it usually is we will win plenty of games.
Long story short, we have the talent to do it but until I see it play at that level consistently I won't believe it

far can a top 25 defense get us ?If Champ could not get us to a top 25 defense, what makes people think Steele can
Boom was working with a shite DL early in the year and 1 good LB all year. Your defense will go as your DL goes. If you DL is shite you need stud LBs to clean up. If both are shite you get Auburns defense for the past 5 years.
I'm not saying Kevin Steele is our savior but he'll have the best Dline that's been at Auburn since 2010. We'll also have TJ Neal and Tre Williams, not Kris Frost

2008 defense was pretty dang solid. We all know how that season turned out. Malzahn should have got his head out of his arse this past offseason and fired Lashlee. Well, that didn't happen. So I'm not too confident that the QB woes will be fixed. It'll be sad watching the defense give it their all, only to have them be worn out by the end of the game from being on the field the entire time.

Giving up 456 passing yards total is not equivalent to giving up 70 points. That was a really stupid analogy. I don't care how good West Virginia's offense was, giving up 70 is extremely bad. It's not like their great athletes invented the wheel and was a new brand of athlete that no one has ever seen before. I can see why you're regarded as a huge sunshine pumper
Giving up 456 yards to Nick Marshall is absolutely the equivalent of a dumpster fire day on defense. Nick Marshall is a defensive back in the NFL.

I can think of at least three games last year where Bama relied on defense to keep them in the game until the offense finally figured out the right foot from the left. If we can rely on our defense and give our offense some time to work the kinks out, we may easily win 10 games.

Would be nice to have a defense that can pick up slack when the Offense is sputtering.

How in the helll did you infer that I was judging KS off of one game?

don't undersell the conference-level embarrassment that occurred during the Orange bowl and compare it to putting up 456 passing yards on Bama. If you watched the WVU-Clemson game, you would've saw that WVU could have easily score another two touchdowns.
Yeah you seem pretty obsessed with it.

More conjecture. You could've quoted a ten page paper of mine on that game and that still wouldn't prove that I judge KS's career off of one game.

Are we assuming we have a QB that can throw the ball farther than 10 yards?

My question is "How far are we from a top 25 defense ".

"A top 25 defense gets us half way there. The offense will need to do the other half."
