Might have backed into the playoffs, but at least we were in the playoffs. No other SEC team can say they were in, or have ever been in.

3 out of the 4 teams in the playoff backed their way in by your definition.
Michigan State, Oklahoma, and Alabama had all got defeated by a highly inferior team early in the season. So I don't know your problem with have one early season loss and winning the remaining THIRTEEN leading up to the big one.
