Which position produces the highest percentage of 4 and 5 star busts?

Gotta be QB or D line right? Seems like a lot of the highly rated college QBs and D linemen never amount to much.(Especially the ones who sign with Auburn) I kid, I kid.

A very unscientific research project has revealed the following
(starting with 2011 class and working back to 2008)
4/5* QB busts
1. Jeff Driskel
2. Jacoby Brissett
3. Christian LeMay
4. Garrett Gilbert
5. Dayne Crist
I have Brissett as a bust, despite having an okay career at NC State,but his flameout from UF was bad.
It's hard to compare it to DE or WR, simply because there are more of those players. Quarterback seems right though, mostly because they are typically the highest-acclaimed players each cycle.

My gut says QB as well. If anyone actually feels like doing a quick number check, this article provides some good stats as well as all the 5 star prospects from 2002-2010 (little dated). LINK

Agree on QB. Both lines of scrimmage produce their share too. With that said, WR and CB produce quite a few as well. I can think of several at both positions the last 10 years that were never significant contributors.

His arm strength is the only thing I'm worried about. He has a very quick release and is incredibly intelligent. As long as he can handle the pressure that comes with the job, he will be good.

The O-line is the hardest to grade out according to the pundits, I imagine they are up there with QB's.

Nice. I don't know a ton about him other than he is highly regarded. Will be interesting to see how Freeze does with a non Juco QB.

Probably so. They seem to get most of the highly five star rated O-linemen right, but the among the 3 and 4 stars there do seem to be a ton that don't pan out.

QB is hard to project cause you can't measure what goes on in the brain. The NFL struggles with it as well. DL is hard to project cause you can't tell if the huge athletic kid will keep working once it gets tough.

We have one right now in Dontavius Blair who came in as a highly touted JUCO OT (no. 8 JUCO prospect rated 4th in the country at his position) in a year that we desperately needed an OT and were rebuilding our entire OL. We needed him to start immediately and didn't have a single true tackle on that team. He wound up getting beat out by a walkon and when the walkon tore his ACL a true freshman who was a Center rather than an OT beat him out for the job. The walkon would eventually come back to play without an ACL and Blair would redshirt and y'all might remember how dreadful that line was -- they were the worst in CFB (like 127th out of 128 teams)!
Last year, he saw no meaningful playing time and when the starter was injured, he was once again beat out by a true freshman (this time a true freshman tackle who actually was one of the best true froshies I've ever seen play the position but even so).
So yeah OL can have some pretty bad busts at the 3-4 star range but I do agree that evals are usually correct for them at the 5* level.
