"Damn it" and "Dammit" are both appropriate.

"Damnit" is never acceptable. Stop it.

I dated an alcoholic gal in MS one time. She would get up in the morning and say, "I feel like dammit." Then she would find a mirror and say, "Oh shite. I look like dammit." It always sounded wrong to me, but I am glad to know that it was an appropriate usage.

All of those spellings would sound the same, so she may have been wrong after all. You should call her up and clarify. Report back here on how the conversation goes.

I asked her in email. She wrote "dammit" in her response.

Get her back. She's a keeper, alcohol and all.

She's been kicked out of every bar and restaurant in Oxford and most of them along Sunset when she visited me. She wanted to punch John Currence one night because he asked her to "settle down a bit". Life with her was never dull.
