Replace him with Gary Patterson and your cooking.

I was laughed at for suggesting him last time we had a HC opening. Just saying

I wonder if they watched that game last night and laughed. Patterson is a proven, great coach. Our idiot AD should have hired him in 2008.

He had no Auburn ties, therefore there was no way we were going to consider him.

Auburn will never reach its potential and achieve consistency until we have a proven head coach that can manage a program. There is no excuse for this roller coaster type program. A coach such as Patterson brings stability. Name the last time Auburn had back to back ten win seasons. Jacobs two hires for football coach: One ended up being a failure and the jury is still out on the current. In both cases he hired unproven coach's.

To be fair though, it's rare for somebody to be able to hire a proven Head coach. Patterson likely wouldn't jump from TCU to us. It's not everyday a Nick Saban falls in your lap.

We will never get one as long as Jacobs is the AD. I have read many times that Patterson got up and walked out in the middle is his interview. You have to make the determination that is what you are going after. I will never believe that Auburn could not land a big time proven coach. If you get one of these type you have to go after him in a relentless manner, similar to what M. Moore did with Saban. You have to make them tell you no multiple times. I also believe that the existing network at Auburn has prevented this and there are some down there that aren't willing to do that and relinquish their power and turn it over to a proven coach. Turning over the keys 100% totally to someone is just difficult for some people.

You gave to define what a "big time proven coach" is.

Texas, USC, Florida, Tennessee, UGA are all programs with recent coaching hires on our level or better who did not get "big time proven coaches"

In today's world, you need to turn the keys over but the person has to either be an expert administrator (Saban) or have a plan in place to hire one he can work with

I mean a proven coach of the caliber of Gary Patterson. We might not could get him now, that ship probably sailed past in 2008. But if Malzahn doesn't make it, we should try to go the direction of a proven coach. I know we can pay what it would take. Look at the money that has been spent on coaching buyouts at Auburn just over the past few years. We may be back in that situation a year from now. Make them tell you no multiple times. Auburn is a program that can achieve consistency. We have the resources to achieve continuos success but for various reasons we have been a roller coaster lately. There is really no reason for that.

There are proper ways to develop a program (see Saban, Harbaugh, Patterson, B. Jones, Shaw, and Pearl) and there's the illusion of development that Auburn fans have been subjected to recently. We need proper development.

Who are these proven guys you want to go after?

Chip Kelly is the only one I can think of that would be possible in the foreseeable future
