What hires has Hyman made throughout his career in men's big 3 sports?

The only hire I know if is Frank Martin to S. Carolina, and how do you feel about his ability of hiring a football coach?

And before I get shouted down for giving up on sumlin, this is purely a hypothetical thread, and im not advocating for the firing of our current coach. I'm just genuinely curious about his previous moves.

Also, good morning!

Hyman was distraught and inconsolable on Saturday after his team lost.

A&M lost to Auburn a couple of hours later.

He also gave us this little gem

quote:

The six-year, $30 million contract that football coach Kevin Sumlin signed last week with Texas A&M contains buyout provisions that would result in Sumlin being paid all of the money remaining on his contract if he is fired without cause at any point during the deal.

quote:

Texas A&M's willingness to essentially guarantee the deal is rare for a school with such a high-dollar contract. All of the schools paying recurring compensation of more than $4 million to their football coach this season — Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State and LSU — have caps on what they would have to pay to fire their coach without cause.

Jesus. Apparently we have to one-up Texas in everything, including stupid fricking contracts (Strong is in year 2 of a 5 year, fully-guaranteed contract worth 25 million dollars).

So the take away from that is Sumlin's got 2 more years left at minimum, and 3 could easily happen.

Actually they copied Sumlin's contract for Strong.

Pre-Martin he brought in Horn. Which was a bust. We hope and believe that Martin will get us turned around though.

Not big 3 but he also brought in Dawn Staley that turned us from a cellar dwellar to national power in WBB.

Hyman hasn't hired or fired a coach in the 4 years he's been here.

I truly, honestly, no trolling, believe that we are simply his golden parachute into retirement and he DGAF.

Right. I guess we did beat them to the punch by a month.

We have to have the dumbest fricking legal dept in the NCAA. I don't remember Sherman's contract, but I seem to recall that it had no buyout or an extremely favorable buyout for him. Kennedy, who had absolutely zero leverage during negotiations (he was a low-major coach making a fraction of 1 mil who had no other job offers), got a contract with stupidly favorable buyout terms. And now we guaranteed Sumlin 30 freaking million, despite the fact that he'd never won a conference championship, either at A&M or Houston.

You do not give a coach who has never won a conference championship a fully- guaranteed 30 million dollar contract. You just don't.

Personally I never minded the Sumlin raise. If we didn't give him that and he went to USC then it would have proven us to be a stepping stone program and would have forced us into the same hiring cycle as Texas. To me the raise was us finally putting on the big boy pants in football, its value will always be symbolic even if Sumlin doesn't work out.

I mean the writing has been on the wall for years now that he wouldn't get fired before 2016. The Chavis deal just reinforced that.

I think if we underperform next year the money left on the contract won't stand in our way.

I don't mind the raise (every coach in the SEC West makes north of 4 mil), it's the no buyout that was stupid.
