Why do we have a coaches poll?

#10 Alabama
#12 Florida
#13 Ole Miss

If Ole Miss can claim the #13 spot after losing by 28 to Florida, then one would assume that means the coaches think any team ranked 14 or below would lose by more than 28 to Florida.

We also have #10 Alabama ahead of #13 Ole Miss which means the coaches think Alabama would beat Ole Miss if they were to play.

Now does this look like it makes sense or does it look like they just arbitrarily move numbers around based entirely on the preseason polls?

You realize it's just a composite of each "coach"'s ranking...right? It's not like every voter in America put those 3 in that order. Each person submits a vote (some could have ole miss way higher or lower, same for florida, same for bama..) and the total points put each team in whatever rank they're in.

But you knew that, right?

and LSU jumps up 3 spots after beating a directional school by 3 touchdowns.

Does anybody really believe that Gaylor and the Horny Frogs are better than the top SEC teams?

AP poll will be close, but Gators probably top 10 in AP

So you're saying some of the polls had an even higher disparity?

I think everyone in America knows what the outcome would be if Bama played Ole Miss again. I'm not sure there's anyone outside of Oxford that believes Ole Miss is better than Alabama.

They'd beat the shite out of Ole Miss.

It would be better if they ranked teams based on their performance week to week. As it is, they rank teams based on whether they get a win or a loss and move them around in relation to the previous week's ranking.

Case in point, the Auburn game against Jacksonville State. They dropped a few spots with a win, but they shouldn't have still been in the top 25 based on their performance in that game.

Problem is people don't have that much time to watch the games. They see a W or an L, look at last week's poll and shuffle a few teams around.

They just beat you a week ago. No matter what, you need Miss to lose again to keep your playoff hopes alive. You'd be more accurate to say that UF would have beaten Bama last night as well.
