“He’s more patient with me. I mean, I don’t want to really talk about coaches or nothing like that, but with Coach Lawing, he didn’t really, he didn’t make me feel like I was worthy of becoming better,” Brantley said. “Coach Rumph just reminded me how good I could be if I just pushed myself.”
I always wondered what it was like for the players off the field after watching Muschamp stomp around throwing his hissy fits on the sideline. I feel really good that the new coaching staff is a little more philosophical in literally every facet of the game now.
I would have hated to play for Muschamp.

Comments like these seem to always be made after a coach leaves so I take them with a grain of salt. But I don't doubt that Coach Rumph is doing well at his job.

There is ALWAYS bridge burning after coaching change it seems. Lawing was great recruiter and someone better look at defensive stats under Muschamp before trying to discredit him...and to think what the stats could have been if not for anemic offense that usually kept defense on the field and in bad field position.

Just look at how bad South Carolina was on the DL without him. A huge step down just 2 years after he left.
They dropped from #17 to #50 in rush defense in year 1 after he left...
And #105 two years later.
Their DL recruiting dropped off as well.
He maybe didn't do his best work in the horrendous environment at Florida with all the bad management, but to say Lawing isn't a good coach would be wrong.

The biggest issue at Florida was the head coach, not so much the assistants, many of whom were quite good.
The overall team leadership was very poor, and the head man did not have a strong vision nor strong management skills.
He was an X's and O's guy, and never understood the more psychological part of the game. IMO.
I think that environment is hard to work in with any profession.

While I share your sentiment about Lawing and his recruiting...the demise of the defense last for the Cocks is easily traced to the departures of major NFL talent in 2013....not so much coaching. Its the Jesses and Joes, not the Xs and Os.

2013 and 2014 they had basically the same players and had a big reduction at the position. 2 years later, yeah I could see them being average, sure, but they were REALLY BAD.

I totally agree with that, and never said he was a bad coach -- in fact, I said that I would hate to play for Muschamp. The whole meathead mentality doesn't help anything. I'm just glad that people are saying they feel more motivated (which is something we didn't see at all in Chump´s last years), and I will even say I get more of a team spirit out of Mac's group going into September.
God I hope we don't stink it up.

Most players loved Muschamp though. Brantley probably didn't like it because he fell on the depth chart.
