MU will host MTSU Oct. 22 next year and in 2023, travel to MTSU in 2022- LINK

I get it's a 2 for 1 but why the hell we still traveling to no names?

Absolutely horrible. only upside is one more game in Tennessee for recruiting. Even that's a stretch.

I would imagine it is a money thing. We probably pay them less if we travel there so its just Mizzou being cheap.

That makes no sense. We're rich now in the SEC. We can afford to pay them more and screw the away game.

It's definitely a money thing. We likely don't have to pay them at all and get two home games out of it. I get it, but then again I dont.

Playing these types of games on the road allows the players to go on a true road game, get the routine, handle the crowd, and deal with that in an environment where there is little chance (in theory) of actually losing the game.

Get the players a true road game experience before they have to go to Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, etc.

I'm not saying it is the best idea, but it isn't a bad idea from a coaching perspective.

Not knocking Pinkel, but we have always had a scrub nonconference schedule since Pinkel has been coach.

Just spitballing and trying to think of possible reasons why this is a theme:

Maybe Pinkel himself likes these road matchups against lower-tier schools. Expose the team to a road environment without playing a team that is too competitive so they have the road routine down for conference play. Gives newcomers a taste of playing in "hostile" territory against a lesser team so their first away game at UGa, UT, USCe, etc in front of 80k+ people doesn't overwhelm them.

Just speculating and hypothesizing, because I don't understand it either.

These games are why we have become a good road team in conference play. Embrace it.

Who is on the coaching staff at that school? Does Pinkel know someone on the coach staff? Perhaps he scheduled this based on a positive relationship with someone on their staff or their entire staff.

But who the frick knows?

And this is where we'll disagree. I don't look at it as scrub but genius. We get 4 OOC games against lessor competition to workout all of our O & D problems before conference play (obviously Indy didn't get the memo ).

Well this is all pretty weird. I wondered about the "hostile" environment too.

Any chance the MTSU game moves to a neutral site? That would make more sense. Delaware makes none. At all.

This is embarrassing. I'm not expecting home and home against blue bloods....but this is truly awful to be scheduling these schools, much less travelling TO them.

You're right. Here's my thinking on how this deal with Middle Tennessee came about: Missouri is desperate for a 2016 home game. By my count, only eight non-power conference teams from the FBS ranks had openings for 2016: Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Florida International, Middle Tennessee, Army, Utah State, UNLV and Louisiana-Monroe. And not all of those necessarily had an opening on dates that worked for Mizzou. When you're a power conference school and you're scrambling for opponents for next season, the non-power teams have all the leverage. "You want to play us, Mizzou? Fine, but not unless you play at our stadium in seven years. We'll even repay you with a game back at your place in eight years." If you're Missouri, you don't have a lot of options when you have to fill the 2016 schedule. So, you agree to the two-for-one deal, knowing that you have seven years to renegotiate. Maybe Missouri can pay off another power conference team to play that game in Murfreesboro. Maybe MU can lobby Middle Tennessee to move that game to a neutral site. Maybe Busch Stadium? Maybe LP Field in Nashville? There's plenty of time to toy with the 2022 game.

per Dave Matter, sounds like we were once again taken to the wood shed by a mid program
