When Nick Saban hangs it up to do TV/retirement in a few, would Bama fans be all in with support for a guy like Gary Patterson, who hasn't won a Ring, but is universally known as one of the best in CFB?

I think they'll go after Les Miles.

they should be able to get just about any coach they want and if Patterson is available I think they should go after him

But I'd personally like to see Kiffin take over and watch them fail

Why are you assuming we all don't quit watching Football on that day?

Band wagon fans are the worst...did I do it right?

Gary Patterson is 55, so it would probably depend on how much longer Saban coaches. If Patterson is 60 when the job opens, that would be an interesting call. While I'd probably prefer a younger coach, if Patterson is still operating at the same level as he is now, he would definitely be a top choice.

Bama will test the waters with the top names in the pro and college games and make a great hire. Patterson would certainly make the list at this point. I think Jimbo will be high on the list as well. Those hoping for a Dubose or Shula level hire will be very disappointed.

let's be honest here, at the level Bama is operating at they should be able to hand pick their next head coach

As bad as 1992-2008 was, it included multiple 10 win seasons and BCS bowls as well as a SEC title.

Exactly. Bama will be getting calls from a variety of good coaches asking for an interview. Who wouldn't want to buy a house with the cupboards stocked with all the good stuff.

2 SEC titles and a national title

Even Mike Dubose won an SEC title at Alabama.

If Kiffin coaches this year and next and does well he will be on the list.

Saban is going to be tough act to follow for that reason I think the A list candidates will stay away. If Kirby wants the job he really needs to cut his teeth somewhere as HC first. Hiring a coordinator is such a crap shoot but yet so is hiring any coach.

i think it all depends on whether or not the power brokers decide to jump back up and each one think its hus team and hes in charge. if that happens then we'll end up with a dubose shula type hire and be right back where we were pre saban.

the flip side is. they remain on the same page and work together and bring in another proven high quality coach. he is able to continue great recruiting and play on the field.

one of the key things in all of this is, athletic director. is bill battle just keeping the seat warm for saban? is battle gonna stay in the position? is battle just staying until saban retires and both leave?
