I just wanted to get your thoughts on the new allegations of his time at USM. Seems like he'll get the hammer after everything that came out. I also think Barnes was a great hire.

I think he would have proved to have been a great coach at Tennessee had this never came to light. Donnie simply was sloppy and got caught. I still think he is a fine person and a damn good coach.

What I want to know if how Tennessee overlooked his shenanigans at USM.
I was living in Hattiesburg at the time he was hired and seemingly all the locals knew he wouldn't last long at Tennessee and knew exactly why.
If so many sidewalk basketball fans knew, how did Tennessee's AD not know?

Our AD has been run by hacks for over a decade now.

Iirc, Dave Hart vetted Tyndall, checked with the NCAA before the hire, and they cleared him.
It was horrendous timing.

Honestly I thought he was a decent coach who won some games he had no business winning(Arky, Butler, LSU, Vandy). Our roster was the worst it's been in years
And he managed to get those guys to play well at times for him -- but he was never a fit within the fan base. Him and that thick Michigan accent drove most of us crazy. I wanted to dolphin dive head first off a 10 story building every time he said VALS. Dude was a slime ball apparently but a decent X's and O's coach. I don't wish anything bad on the guy, but I was very happy to get Barnes.

I was stunned UT hired him.

Our AD talked to the NCAA the day before he was fired. Even though none of it was official and IIRC not even the prelim report had come out that conversation was enough. They must've had Donnie dead to rights because Hart wouldn't have fired him otherwise. Also, Donnie lied to Hart when this was all going on (I'd have to look it all up again but I'm pretty sure Donnie apologized for it).
ETA: You gotta link to the new ones? I'm not surprised given how quickly Hart fired him after speaking with the NCAA. He was gonna get a show-cause even if nothing new came out.

I violations allegedly committed by Tyndall:
1. The NCAA says Tyndall, an associate head coach and two assistant coaches arranged fraudulent academic credit in the completion of online coursework for seven prospective student athletes. In one instance, Tyndall paid for the online courses. The NCAA says this is a Level I violation, and that it took place between June 2012 and May 2014.
2. The NCAA says Tyndall provided impermissible source of financial aid to two academic non-qualifiers. Tyndall provided cash and prepaid cards that totaled approximately $6,000 to one of the players, which went toward the player’s expenses associated with room and board. Tyndall provided prepaid cards that totaled $2,000 to the other student, which went toward the same reasons. The NCAA says this is a Level I violation, and that it took place during the 2012-13 and 2014-15 academic years.
3. The NCAA says Tyndall obstructed the NCAA investigation and did not cooperate. Specifically, Tyndall deleted pertinent emails and provided false or misleading information to the NCAA enforcement staff. He also contacted some interviewees about the investigation and influenced other interviewees to provide false or misleading information to the enforcement staff. The NCAA says this is a Level I violation, and that it took place between August 2014 and June 2015.
4. The NCAA says Tyndall violated head coach responsibility legislation as he is presumed to be responsible for the alleged violations of his staff members as well as himself. The NCAA says this is a Level I violation.
Tennessee did not receive a notice of allegations this week and there appears to nothing linking the Vols to the NCAA troubles of Tyndall and Southern Miss.

What kind of sanctions is USM looking at?

So essentially he was vetted and the NCAA cleared him, however he didn't take one of his assistants with him so the guy got pissed and blew the whistle. It was a huge embarrassment for the AD which I like because is strong-armed him into getting someone like Barnes. Overall it was a shite show but I like how it shook out.
