If you live in East Arkansas you probably notice the growing crime around certain cities. Blytheville has become known as little Memphis, and West Memphis is well Memphis. Murder, robbery, and all types of violence seems to be all you hear about coming out of these areas. Today I realized there is an big crime that is being snuffed out. That crime is not wearing your seat belt.

Twice in the last 6 months I have been reprimanded and fined for my law breaking ways by the fine officers of the area. I am thankful that they are able to put so much time into stopping these types of offenses and wasting less time in stopping petty crimes like breaking and entering, drug sales, rape, and murder.

Has anybody else been busted lately or get busted on the reg like me?

On a more serious note, I love cops, just wish they would quit picking on me for the small stuff.

The West Memphis one was the one that hacked me off the worst. He was hiding behind a barrier on the bridge and picked me out of 10 cars nose to tail.

Pulled up behind me and told me my registration was expired. I handed him my registration and of course it wasn't. Then he said oh well, I also pulled you over because you don't have your seatbelt on. Crittenden Co. has a racket going on over there. I think mine was 80 bucks.

The officer today I never saw. He came flying up and I looked down and made sure I wasn't speeding and moved to the other lane. When he followed me I knew what was coming.

I'm appalled at your lack of concern over my insurance rates going up after you go flying through the windshield.

Third offense should be some kind of jail time.

Well, thankfully it sounds like your parents at least taught you not to act a damn fool when interacting with the police, unlike some in the McKinney, TX area.

They are trying to make an effort here I guess.

Yup. I'm right there w/ ya. Officer J. Alvarado has nailed me 2x over the past few months in Fayetteville. I've passed by probably 50-60 other officers in NWA and only a state trooper popped me for no seatbelt in that time.

It's a racket and a bad one at that. If an adult is driving solo, in bumper to bumper traffic, who cares if they're wearing a belt or not.

UFC ref Big John McCarthy was on a podcast telling stories of his time as a LAPD officer, (he was on the force for the OJ chase, the Rodney King riots, crack epidemic, serious gang violence, etc.) he said only scared cops give seatbelt tickets. As in guys that are too scared to do real police work and they sit in the car and cherry pick law abiding people that make little errors like a taillight out, seatbelts, speeding. Ticketing honest people is a cash cow, these cops that are too scared to bust a real criminal or to work the streets and get info on where the drugs and human trafficking are happening are less than worthless.

It all boils down to an officer by office basis. I've had OK highway patrol honk at me and point at the belt and drive on, had AR state trooper go full lights and sirens from a stop light to flip around in Lowell and give me a seat belt ticket, while calling in a back up unit to cover him. Like I said only scared cops pull people over for ticky tacky useless victimless crimes. Wish they'd use our resources for things that make a difference.

Cops really do have an expectation to write so much revenue per month for the city. How that quota is coming along has a lot to do with the zealousness of the officer.
