On paper, Auburn is thin in the secondary. Five players have left the team since January, but Robinson believes the Tigers are "thin in the right way."

The reason: the fresh faces. Some of them will be counted on, too.

"It's going to be some great competition in our room," Robinson said. "I'm excited about it and I can't wait to get those guys out on the grass again. That's when I'm at my comfort zone, when I'm out on the grass. I think that's where I am best."

quote:

Safety Montavious Atkinson:

"Atkinson, he was running today. I peaked out the window and saw him out there today. I tell you what, man, the guy can run. He's in shape, he looks great, the body looked good."

quote:

Safety Jordan Colbert:

"Colbert, that's a pleasant surprise being qualified. We didn't know. I'm excited about him. Obviously he's got to get in shape and all that kind of stuff. He ain't in shape yet and it'll come. He got to come in and work. The good thing is he's got a couple of months to get there. I'm excited about him."

quote:

Cornerback Javarius Davis:

"Javarius Davis obviously has got electrifying speed. A guy that came to camp when we were at Florida. I was recruiting him more as an offensive guy at Florida but always thought he could play defense, just wasn't going to take too many corners. I'm excited about him. He got electrifying speed and I think he's a really good player, plays with good technique and he's going to be fine."

quote:

Cornerback Carlton Davis:

"Carlton Davis is a long corner. If you kind of look at the history of coach (Will) Muschamp and myself and this system we always play with at least one long corner. Again, all these guys we're going to play against now, they're big. Duke (Williams) is big, Ricardo (Louis) is big, just at practice as long you've got be able to compete with those guys. You got to be able to have guys that can get the ball (off) guys, bigger body guys. He's definitely that. I imagine Carlton is 6-foot 190, 195 (pounds), maybe 6-1. But a really good football player, going to be good for us."

quote:

Cornerback Jeremiah Dinson:

"Jeremiah is coming in, he's technique sound, been really, really well coached and excited about him."

So from these quotes alone we can expect the Carlton and Javarius Davis to contribute this year but Colbert and Dinson to probably not

Being a Safety, Colbert won't have to come in and play significant snaps right away. (Thank God, and Mark Richt, we have some talent at S!)

We're still pretty thin at safety. I'm not confident in anyone behind Matthews and Ford

I'm pleased to hear Atkinson is in such good shape considering his old age

Are Ruffin and Roberts at Safety now? Not that they have much to any experience there

Roberts is the 3rd CB right now. Not sure about Ruffin but he looked good at safety last year.

If something happens to the front line at safety or corner, God forbid, Holsey can move over w/ Irvin/Ruffin taking over Nickel.
